Please help with my amp/sub hookup!
Please help with my amp/sub hookup!
I recently installed a new deck and speakers in my truck and they work perfectly.
I installed the amp and sub yesterday and it just makes a crackling sound when I turn it up and it makes no sound when at lower volume. I have double checked just about everything and cannot figure out the problem.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance

1. is the power light on the amp oN? if not u have a power/ground connection issue
2. did u hook up wire connects to the head unit telling it to turn on or off?
3. are the RCAs hooked up securely without them grounding out? (touching some sort of metal)
Re: Please help with my amp/sub hookup!
^ Yes to all.
So I rechecked the wiring today and put it all back in....and still the same problem!
So I decided I was going to find out today! So I went down to the local stereo store and they are 100% sure that my speaker is defective right out of the box. Way to go MTX, made in china with pride lol
So now I have to send it back to sonicelectronix and have them send me a new one. What a pain in the dick!

I know absolutely nothing about stero's other than that they make noise and there is a cool deck i can put my ipod inside, but it's nice to see you stickin around even though sold your civic maddog.
it would have sucked if you peaced out after you sold your em1.

So I talked to sonicelectronix. I bought another one, and when they get this one back they will refund my money. The new one shoud get here in 4 business days.
Re: Please help with my amp/sub hookup!
^ $125 I think. It's a MTX t56...if I remember correctly.
It's the 2ohm slim model 300w RMS. I had to get the slim one to fit behind the seat in my regular cab. There isn't a lot of options for slim subs out there.

Re: Please help with my amp/sub hookup!
I don't need that much watts. I have a single cab pickup, not a school bus. Plus the guys down at the stereo place are convinced that these have excellent sound quality compared to other thin subs and I do trust them a lot. I know JL makes excellent products, but I don't need top of the line at thrice the price and only twice the RMS. That's just not smart shopping. I could get another speaker and amp for that much.

The 13tw5 is a 600w peak sub. They say optimum performance is at 250-300W
downside is, you wouldn't be spending "a little" more.. It's more than double the price you paid for the MTX. I found it for $380, and the MSRP is something like $550

Lol are u kidding?
JL audio is $1 per watt
worth every penny if you can spend that much lol
But oh well, it's not for everyone, MTX is a pretty decent brand for a low price

Re: Please help with my amp/sub hookup!
^ RMS is still the same and I payed $0.50 per watt ($0.025 if we are talking peak) with this speaker...and I can afford a JL, I just don't think that they are worth it for what you get, I don't like paying extra for the name.
Anyways I got my new sub today and installed it. It doesn't sound as nice as my 12" JBL power series that I had in my Civic but what can you expect with limited space?

Nice install
Very clean
Just to touch on what you said, JL is not just a name brand, they actually perform higher than expectations.
Is it an overhyped brand? Of course, but a lot of users who used JL stand by it's reputation.
Honestly, If I could afford buying FI Audio, that would probably be the only brand i'll take over JL
But overall, very nice install.
MTX is not a bad brand, but for a tiny bit more, I would go with Rockford Fosgate.
