Bought Car ... What should I check for?

Hey everyone,

I am going to pick up my 2002 ex coupe (CDN Si) and i am going to pick her up from the dealership tomorrow. Since this is my first car, what should I look for before I driver her off the lot?

Cheers,
Cosmicjim

Check the body and be sure of no flaws/scratches in the paint. When I bought mine, it had a tiny scratch about 2 inches long on the back quarter panel and they buffed it out for me. Just look over it and make sure it is what you want, because you're the one who is going to have to pay for it!

I had some interior problems with my new Civic - I've found few deep scratches on the plastic panel under the rear window, the front of the driver's door panel was loose and the square section around the passenger's door handle was loose too.

Check for :

- paint chips or defects all around the car (especially around rear bumper)
- rear deck rattling
- sunroof squeaking
- front dash and glovebox rattles

and make sure:

- front seat doesn't rock back and forth
- cargo net, spare tire and tools are included
- back seats lock properly into place

I think Ronin sumed it up. You might also want to take a look at the Vehicle Issues / Problems Forum on this website. It talks about some problems people have with there civics.

Looks like everyone's covered that... for the future once you're satisfied....

Please read the owner's manual... there are so many people who ask questions here that are in the owner's manual like how to change your headlight bulbs or what motor oil you should use when changing the oil.

If you're going to modify your car and you're worried about your warranty, just ask the dealer if they allow mods. Some dealers don't mind any modifications at all, while usually most are conservative, some don't allow any mods when you bring your car in for service. We can't really tell you which mods are kew and which ones aren't... it really depends on the dealer. (Clearing headlights is okay....)

Really clearing the headlights is all right I did it and my dealer here in town says it was ok. Then I call where I am moving to where I bought the car and the guy guessed it would void my headlight warranty so I think the guy was a idiot so I don't believe him LOL

Be sure to ask the dealer for the 4-digit code for the radio. You'd be surprised at how many salesguys neglect to do this, and when someone disconnects their battery they're like "How come my CD player doesn't work anymore???"
