Best Exhaust Headers and other Modifications
I am a newbie. Please Help me out. I have a 02 Lx 5 speed civic. I'm looking for a decent hp gain without making the exhaust loud. Any recommendations? The quieter the better. Thanks.

personally i would recommend the DC Sports TCS Exhaust. ive heard a little about HP headers, lower line. I'd recommend the DC Sports Ceramic header
AEM, and Injen make the best intakes, but i recommend injen!
Hope this helps!

w/ any of the basic mods (i/h/e) youre only gonna get minimal gains....the magnaflow has the lowest tone that i have heard, w/ CAI it gets little louder. and im betting that putting a header on would make it hella loud...not ricey but loud....

<< will i notice a difference in the cars performance with exhaust and cai? >>
I have the magnaflow exhaust and injen cai. I got the cai first and most definately noticed an increase in performance. I didn't really notice the exhaust though. If you have an lx you would probably get a better gain from the exhaust as the oem exhaust accounts for some of the ex's higher output. The magnaflow is fairly low and probably one of the quietest systems on the market, looks nice, and you can't beat a group buy deal on one.
I would wait a little bit on the headers. Dc makes some high quality stuff but hasn't shown much in the hp department. The hp 4-1 w/high-flow cat is what I would get. However, there have been fitment issues and problems with the ecu. HP is supposed to put a revised header out sometime soon that will resolve those issues.

The quieter the better? DC Sports TCS. If you're looking for horsepower, then I think Skunk2 might be the answer. Conversion to an EX's catalytic converter and header will give you bigger gains though.

I'll be in Austin, Texas in the fall so if I got a CAI I would get the AEM with the bypass valve. Won't this valve hurt the horsepower gain?
Where could I get the part to convert to an EX catalytic converter

Maybe, although AEM says no. I think at higher rpm the flaps on the bypass valve might flutter and open slightly. That and the the shape of it inside probably restricts the air slightly.

It's not just one part. You'll need an EX cat-back exhaust. An EX catalytic converter (or high-flow cat that will fit in that spot). You'll need EX headers, and the pipe that goes from the EX headers to the catalytic converter. Then you'll need to extend your sensor wires.

<< there is no such thing as "decent" hp gains with an exhaust, more like "kinda" gains >>
It depends on what you are starting with. Like in the older generation accords, you had an ex putting out around 15 more hp than the lower model. This was almost completely due to the different exhaust system.

Where would I buy those parts and how much will it cost? Will the Magnaflow exhaust be worthwhile if I get a supercharger(wishful thinking) in the future? So basically will my civic be like the EX minus the Vtec engine?
OBX R Tunnable muffler. $110.00
DC 4-1 porcelaine coated headers. $350.00
EX to LX convertion with 2.75" pipe. $300.00
High flow cat. $100.00
Cold air intake/short ram intake. $500.00
NOS $900.00
Burning Mustangs and Camaros PRICELESS!!

Get the EX OEM parts from www.hparts.com, or www.hondaautomotiveparts.com How much? It depends, check the sites. Magnaflow should be good for FI (Forced Induction) I.E. Supercharger or Turbocharger, but a custom system with bigger piping might be better. And yes, your LX would be just like an EX without the VTEC and with lower compression.
