92 Civic won't always start

My 92 civiv with over 270,000 miles will not always start. She cranks like a champ but no start. I'll let her sit overnight and she starts no problem. I killed a battery trying to start her and after she was towed to my mechanic she started right up. this problem occurs every few weeks to every other day. I get frustrated because I commute some distance and worry about getting stuck. This problem never happens when shes at the mechanic of course. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.
