Does Touch-Up Paint Usually Match?

The supposedly magnesium colored touch up paint I got at the dealer is lighter than my paint, closer to silver. I thought, if anything, it would be darker, because the sun could only lighten the original color. Anyway, does it usually match or is it always off by a shade or two? Why go back if they always get it wrong, I'm thinking, since I gave them the right code in the first place.

I got a 12oz rattle can from automotivetouchup.com that's a perfect match. They also guarantee the match and will tweak it if need be.

They give you a card that you're supposed to paint half of it, clear coat it, then compare to your car. If it doesn't match, you send it to 'em and tell them how different it is

I'll probably get some black Testors model paint and mix a little in to darken my bottle. It couldn't turn out any worse, that's for sure.

yup. That's the one

Here's a sample of how well it matched. 2 coats color, 2 coats clear, after 2 hours of drying in 95°F Vegas weather

It actually WAS the site he was referring to, if you scroll up and see the post I replied to you can see further proof. No one mentioned a "scratch" anywhere in this thread, either. My guess is that modularama saw an e-mail notification of a thread reply and just assumed it was for another thread he was involved in. No worries bro, no offense taken.
