I asked the Toyota marketing guy at the Houston Auto Show last night about the new Toyota 'muscle car'. He said that, sadly, Toyota doesn't really have anything in the making, and it will be quite a long time before they unveil a new car to compete with the WRX STi, 350Z, etc.

I read about these cars on a supra club site cause I an in the closet rx 8 and supra fan cause they go against the normal four cylinder import and they can put out massive power. I heard that the first fun was going to be a six speed 300 horsepower 6 but I think thats without a good turbo or a turbo at all but I would wait a few years when more people are pushing the envelope in our market and they will start make a lighter faster better looking version of the car and it will be in my garage.

Really?!?!?! A manual?!?!?! Sounds like a sentence meant for the new Accord. Ah, I wish they'd stick to 6-clyinder. But whatever... I love Supra's and all... but if it can beat the look of the last Supra (which IMO was one of the greatest looking automobiles to ever grace land), then I won't be too worried about how it performs. If it can't outweight the performance of the old Supra, then at least I can still love the old ones.
There is no doubt that the last Supras to make it to our shores were awesome performers.
- 320hp
- 13 second 1/4 mile time slips
- great braking & handling
- all around great cars
However, Toyota priced itself right out of the market. The Turbo Supras were well over $40,000 if I remember correctly. Due to the slow sales, Toyota was "giving them away" in the end for a little over $30,000. I imagine those who plunked down over $40g's were unhappy to say the least when they saw that price drop!!!
We shall see how the next one is. It already has the 350Z to compete with, and the RX8(?)....
