Makes sense since you can shift to neutral and put the e-brake on instead of pushing in the brake to keep the car from rolling forward. Since the car wants to roll forward it's making more power and using more gas than if it was just idling in neutral.

IMO, it's not the best thing to do, only because if you forget to shift, you'll look pretty silly just revving there

I did that!!! Hahah, I was like "Wtf?! Whoops... Hahah" LoL. And I also agree with Juggaman. Sounds logical to me.
its useless... your engine is still pumping fluid in the tc regardless of what gear the transmission is... theres a very very very slight load lifted in N vs D, but its really probably a savings of .001mpg
nothing wrong with gas prices here, believe me!
You gotta spend 2-3 weeks in europe to see how good we have it here. Apparently Sweeden has the cheapest gas in Europe and when I was there it was about $4.01 US dollars / US Gallon which is about $1.50 can dolars per liter. It only gets worse, In england it was about 5.00 US$ / US gallon.

<< I don't think its good for an automatic tranny. The more you move the tranny, the quicker it will wear down, IMO. jm2c.... >>
Exactly why put more unecessary wear on your tranny by shifting. People with autos should just put the thing in D and drive! It's not a manual and there are no special tricks. Put it in D and go.
