Scary Thoughts
I'm scared. I see 16-18 year old kids, getting their licenses, buying used cars, putting exhaust & LED windshield washers, and going NUTS with them. I mean real nucking futs, zig zagging in and out of traffic without a care in the world. A lot of them are not experienced drivers, have no clue on the limit of their cars but have the heaviest feet. Not a good combo.
Thank God their cars are slow. Most of them are CRXs, old Integras, 240SX, Accords, old Maximas, etc.......... then tonight I saw these kids in a '92 Talon TSi, going almost 100mph in downtown area. Followed behind them was a 5.0L Mustang, trying hard to keep up. I saw red lights in front of me... thinking when are they going to slow down? Then they ran it. And just barely got T-Boned by a minivan. Whoa! Then it hit me. Cars are getting faster. And those fast cars are becoming cheap, and easily available.
Take the Integra. The new replacement RSX is 200HP, in soon enough, it will find its way into used car dealerships, and will be picked up by a kid who's parents think he deserves a "decent car." Hey, it's an Acura. Must be a realiable, nice car, right? I'm sure that's the real reason why he wants the RSX. More like for drag racing. The new Altima is pushing 240HP, Accords are 200HP........ Golfs have V6s in them, and some are turbocharged to 180HP. Sentras? Now 175. Focus 170. ... Even cute SUVs like Ford Escape has 200HP. These are some FAST cars. And pretty soon they'll trickle into the driveways of re-responsible kids. I think accidents will be worse as time goes by. Bigger accidents. Higher fatality rates. Even though the cars themselves have more control and better safety features, kids will always exploit them to the max. Traction control, ABS & electronical stabalization systems won't save you runing reds at 100mph and taking corners WAY too fast.
Good thing my car has 5-star safety rating................

I know what you mean, my little brother just got his license, I'm constantly telling him to slow down. Not only do I worry, but it also angers me when I hear cars tearing down my residential street late at night.

Any car can kill no matter how fast it is..... face the jury, all cars are a potential weapon. It's not fast cars that are doing the killing. It's the illusion that car manufacturers are giving to young kids that cars are fast and therefore inducing kids to drive faster/deadlier.
back in the day everyone was into v8 muscle cars... those where primarily driven by teens.. stats are always on the rise due to rises in overall population.. I dont forsee more accidents on average... so a kid can do 90 now instead of 80 faster... you drive over 50 in rersidentail areas.. an your f*cked by hitting as tree.. or someone pulling out... dosnt mattter... I can speed in a geo metro.. if I wanna go fast I'll go fast.. dosnt matter if I can go faster in 6 sec compared to 8 sec... I dont care about kids in type r integras.. I care about kids going the speed limit in huge a$$ suv's goign an not seeing us in our civcs
how about when u first got u license? were you like those kids?

too all the people talking about "young drivers being reckless"
hey tell me that u didnt drive like that when you were a teen.
im 17 and i drive constantly 20 mph over the speed limit. *well maybe not residential places* not stupid
besides teh point. when your a teenager you want power and speed.
i find driving fast relaxing to me. and yes i sometimes "bit ch" people weaving in and out of lanes.
its like your parents complaining about "the music today"
soon enough ill be bi tching about something like this. :0

I'm not really concerned with speeding itself... you can safely go over the speed limit, like on the highway at 3am, when there is nobody but yourself, and the car 2km ahead of you. No biggie.
But with FAST cars, I find kids reaching WARP SPEED in downtown traffic... I mean, I don't even see a big deal in going 60mph downtown, as long as you have a good stretch and you're alert. But ripping thru traffic & traffic lights at 160mph? That's death wish. It's a chance of accident you're flirting with, it's almost a guarantee.

I don't worry about kids and their cars too much. I was a pedal to the medal teenager once too. Like someone said, I worry about those big gas-guzzling beasts of suvs more than anything else.
Yep, never said we weren't. I remember back when I took my Dodge Caravan to the speed limiter, or the time I got my Accord to 120 on a empty stretch of freeway. Young drivers have always driven fast, regardless of the cars they drive. It's something we all outgrow. Some just do it in a more reckless manner.

Well that's what I'm afriad of...
Kids taking their cars to limit. At least you only had an Accord and could only do 120mph.
What's a kid gonna do with a car that does 140mph? 160mph? He's not going to stop at 120, that's for sure.

this is rediculus.. the only way a kid is gonna reach 140- 160 mph is if he knows how to drive an has modded his suspension an tires... my civic get blown around at only 110.... as do most of the fast cars (not sayin my car is fast) casue cars are so light now adays... I say most teens I know would wet there pants going 140 -160 unless they were used to it or knew how to drive.. either case.. oh what the h*ll this topic is dumb I dont feel like talking anymore.. I think everyone here mad my point... jus stay inside
The problem really isn't the speeding being dangerous, it is the other people. For example say your cruising at lets say..........15mph over the speed limit, fast for the area but not to radiculous. When all of the sudden a mid-late 70's "caddy" w/ a white hair behind the wheel rolls a stop sign your reaction time is shorter thus causing the problem.

What kind of car are these kids going 140 in?
