Yep, it is Honda's Toyota Prius fighter (let's face it, the Insight was a science project). Completitively priced, it should do well. For some reason though, when you sit in the Prius, it *feels* bigger than the Civic Sedan. Actual useful space is about the same. Of course, having a "Civic" badge is going to help a lot with the sales. I think you will find Toyota doing the same thing very shortly on their new Corolla chassis.

Only hybrid trims for 2003? Just 2?
This means that we got limited edition color and trims.

the hybrid will be a nice addition to the existing line
PS: CVT stands for Continuous Variable Transmission
(it uses hydraulic pulleys instead of gears)

I think the Si looks better. Dang... the Civic is has came and gone as a economy car... coupe, sedan, hatch... a sports coupe, hatch... now electrified sedans! I would only get this car if I could use the battery to power my house during a blackout... goddamn PG&E!

there is also the type R in europe and japan. The hyprid will have more space that the Prius. The Prius just feels big because Toyota is making its cars with alot of head room so the car is higher. if you put them side by side, the prius is like 3 inches taller but the civic is wider.

Hybrids 0wn! Butt kicking gas mileage. Honda has a big headstart in hybrid technology with Toyota the closest competitor.
The Civic Hybrid should get considerably better milage than the Prius.

yeh da civic hybrid 2003 pretty much owns da toyota prius in every aspect..... gas mileage, dimensions, etc.
but i really think carrying the civic badge, makes it more upbeat and would attract more buyers.
HONDAS and TOYOTAS are really goind head to head on sales.
I swear guys the hatchback competition is on- HONDA CIVIC SI vs. TOYOTA MATRIX. Toyota matrix XRS is pretty damn good if im not mistaken, the dealer told me 185 hp (celica engine). it looks nice and dat sure is wayyy better than 160 hp.
i wonder what is the next thing toyota will use to go against the upcoming HONDA model x.

The 2004 NSX is very similar to what you are describing. Gas engine powers the rear wheels while electric motors assist on the back and do all the work on the front wheels.

Horsepower: 402 bhp
0-60mph: 4.5 secs (est)
Top Speed: 190 mph/306 km/h
Engine: 3.5 litre/V6 + electric motor
The Dual Note breaks the mould for supercars, it is a car born out of a fusion of contradictory values. This concept is manifested throughout the vehicle, from its powerplant, right through to its packaging and design. The Dual Note is the world's first twin-engined hybrid performance coupé, offering 190mph top speed and an incredible 50mpg.
Using an advanced version of the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system first seen on the Insight, the Dual Note uses two engines. One is a rear-wheel-drive 3.5-litre V6 i-VTEC petrol unit developed from the current NSX, the other an electric motor driving the front wheels. By switching the drive bet-ween the two depending on conditions, the car can achieve hatchback-rivalling fuel consumption.
Both engines running together produce an awesome 402bhp and 4WD traction. Despite this, the Dual Note is practical. It's a full four-seater four-door, although the interior is as futuristic as the powertrain, with the cockpit featuring interactive voice recognition and infrared night vision cameras.
Bah......got too lazy to find pics again...I have em at shcool....anyways just search for the pics if you want to know what it looks like

That would be cool if there are fast hybrids for sale. To answer to your question. They are heavier and slightly slower. Other than that, I think the front looks cool.

Well, my brother worked at a Toyota Dealership a while ago, and be brought home a Prius one night. I drove it around, and damn, it was nice. Lexus ain't a damn for quietness, I was sitting next the car, and thought it was off when it was actually on. I raced it too, with my Automatic LX........ off the line, the Prius is a SLUG. But only for 1 second. Then the torque hits and it pulls very strongly and effortlessly. I'm not sure what causes that major lag from the launch (CVT? Electric Motor? Tiny Gas Motor?)... anyway, I had the Prius by almost a car length right off the line, but after that, it kept up, maintaining that same distance all the way. Needless to say, I was impressed. And sort of embarassed at the same time.... a battery powered car was biting my ankles. CVT sure is weird though. The engine sounds like it's dying or something. And feels like tranny is slipping big time. It take a while to get used to, but once you do, it's not bad. I'm really looking forward to test driving the Honda Hybrid when it's out... sure be a pretty slick car. Nice looking front end too.
