Reason no one makes a turbo for our car is.....

Yesterday I posted a message about a local shop wanting 8,000 to put in a custom turbo for the 2k1civic. He told he me that HKS and Greddy plus everone else is not making a turbo for our car is simple. ULEV!!!! Apparently since our cars are such low emissions, adding a turbo complicates things, and then civic WILL NOT pass California emissions standards. Not to mention the fuel management system in our cars will have to be greatly modified. It is TOO costly!!! Not to mention California is the largest market for people like Greddy and HKS, it is not worth there time. I hope all this is not true, but that is what the guy told me.

You are absolutely right.
I have a turbo that I purchase from a friend in Miami.
I had it for about 2 months.
We are looking at getting all parts done from scratch and the more we look the more we have to modify.
We'll get it eventualy is just that is to costly and some parts we have to get from Honda like ignition and such.
It'll be awile before I or anyone will get it done.

I'm not sure, but I think that any engine part that is not CARB exempt will not pass emissions. Internal engine components which the technitians can't see obviously don't count if they don't impact on emissions. I need to find out for sure before I buy anything for my turbo, yep yep. I'll go look at the california emissions laws and see for myself.

Maybe there's a stricter guideline for our cars because they are labeled as new ULEV? I dunno just a guess. Just be glad that we're eco-friendly and go hug a tree.

it really seems like bullsh*t to hold our cars to higher standards than non-ulev cars. why the hell cant you get a turbo then get it tested and changed to LEV if it meets those requirements, since its legal to have a LEV car, how can it be illegal to have a ULEV car that still meets LEV standards

Well, if ya'll don't have to do emission tests once a year, then who cares. Sorry, Im not a green thumb, and since Florida doesn't give a damn what you do to the cars, nor due they care if it is ULEV or not because we don't have any kind of FARB, or such, I guess anyone wanting to go Turbo will be moving done here. In all honesty, if you are not concerned with emissions and such, a turbo for our cars is really not that difficult. It is about the same as slapping one on any other NA car, with returnless fuel system. Yes, there is a way to overcome the RFS, either by making it full circuit, or upgrading the components of it. As soon as my siggy loan is over with for my laptop, I fully plan on investigating the FI way of life.

thats what ive been saying..........that is complete B.S......if thats the reason why........
you can have a beat up 84 rustang w/ 20 times worse emisions and still pass........
but w/ our ULEV crap we cant go FI..........thats stupid

ok, i understand the carb problem for CA............but WTF?? ........did HKS and Greddy forget about the other 49 states in the country that dont have that??? i mean i feel for CA people, but is that any reason to neglect the rest of the country? granted CA has the largest concentrated import crowd, but there are TONS more combined across the country.

wat i dont get is nitrous and turbos work in a similar fasion both need more fuel to work properly cause the are both forced induction
my point is they both consist in lots of air basically needing more fuel so why can we put a nitrous kit punping more air into our engiens and it works
and we cant put a turbo in our system wich theoretically is almost doing the same thing

if any body has something to say bout this message me
i really want to here so ideas cause i already got some one to make the manifold for me

nitrous also varies state to state, some states allow you to have it, but not use it while other states outlaw it all together-you must be careful with this I know it's dumb but then so are so many laws
