Re: jetta vs civic
Theres really nothing wrong with the jettas. They idle a little rough but they got good torque for the weight.Problems with them are interiors are dyed and then painted. Paint starts to go some as soon as 20k miles others around 60k. If you get an auto trade that ho before you get over 100k miles.Plus there a little pricey to fix once your outa warranty. But they have more for base. All wheel disc and cdplayer.Best in safety.Eight airbags on a base model.Thats the jetta side at least.LOL. So whats a plus on the civic side guys??LOL
Re: jetta vs civic
civics are good on gas... have less things that can go wrong... nuttin against VW cause they make some pimp cars... but some things like thier cupholders are just half assed... they simply snap and break... a civic will last forever on its tranny for an auto... and ive seen very few with engine problems... they are both very reliable cars... but i only know the bads about the jettas cause my buddies bring them to me to fix.... and they are hard to work on... but incrdibly safe cars
Re: jetta vs civic
My friends all have vw 2 had jettas and 2 older jettas and 3 golfs/gti and all i got to say is pos, they are so slow and not that great mpg and unreliable. My friend had a 02 gti 20 av. 1.8T and that thing was fast untill i test drove a rsx type s which is the same motor in a civic si. VW don't have potiental unless you redo the hole motor. I meet this one guy and he had a 98 gti vr6 with a turbo and was kicking 285 hp and i about started to laugh because thats nothing. The other thing to look at is that body kits are so expensive for any german car, which with japan cars it's like half the price give some take some. My buddy that had the 20 av gti race my other buddy with a b18 type r in a delsol and they ran equal. Sad part is my buddies car has a apr chip(i think) intake exhaust with blow off in the gti. One more thing is that torque isin't always good with fwd imo because the gti never had traction at low end. To every civic you see on the road there is one vw in a garage getting fixed because i know that for a fact
Re: jetta vs civic
I love VWs. There will be people who say they're super unreliable, and then you'll get the other end too. I love the older GTIs. They're such fun cars, and cheap to fix. You can buy parts for old VWs for really cheap, and they're not hard to work on at all. Honestly I feel like you can make VWs faster than a civic with less work too. I have a lot of VW friends pushing 400whp and such.

07 GTI 2.0T = 22K - 23/32mpg - 200hp - 3100lbs
same HP!!! the only diff is torque,
Horsepower @ rpm 197@7800 200@5100
Torque @ rpm 139@6100 207@1800
but with the 1K difference you can save it or just slap on a exhaust, header, intake
edit:
07 Sentra Spec-V (2.5L I4)
Price $20k
Horsepower 200@6600
Torque 180@5200
weighs 3100lbs
Mpg = 24/31

Re: jetta vs civic
vw = more expensive to maintain, less reliabe imo (well, at the very least, once you rack up some high mileage), and this one is more expensive than the civic.
i say civic, but i am biased towards honda and toyota.
