2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT

hey guys. my roommate has a 2001 eclipse gt (auto) and claims that he can kill any and all honda civics (7th gen)... i was looking at edmunds.com and its 1/4 mi. times and 0-60 times weren't all that impressive. would a 7th gen civic be able to beat it? i know his car has 200 hp and all... and when i was riding with him and told him to gun it.. which he did... i wasn't too impressed at all. what do you guys think?

Eclipse stock beats Civic Ex Stock.
There are many mods for the eclipse/talon, but i think both modded out, the eclipse will win.

it also depends on the driver and stuff...since he has an auto, if you have a manual and shift VERY well (and if his auto tranny is crap) you might be able to....its hard to say for sure though. i'd say try it, but dont bet anything of too much value hehe

I know how you feel about not being impressed. I test drove the eclipse GT and didnt like the way it felt, and not to mention i hate the new body style.

Iam sure we could beat the Eclipse from light to light but that's it. That's only because they are so heavy. But don't think about it on the freeway.

Your friend is right. Except the JDM Civic Type R would be the only Civic the Eclipse would not touch. A turboed/supercharged Si would also put the Eclipse back in the shadows where it came from.

Horsepower is mostly acceleration through each gears anyways... how it's best used also depends on the weight of the car and among other things. The Eclipse is heavy, but it will blow the glass off our Civics... and why put an economy car against something in the sport compact class anyway? Senseless. If you can get at least 140HP out of your Civic on the dyno... or even at the wheel, then go for it... but what are you chances of having that?
