Almost traded for 2000 si
Today I walk into a local Honda Dealership in the Philadelphia area. Outside sits a black 2000 si. Looks good. Has the factor wing and some new tires. Fairly clean with a dent on the fender and one on the quarther panel. Otherwise straight as an arrow. I glance through the window and notice that the clock reads 35k. A little high for a 2000, but acceptable. So, and freind of mine and I go in to incquier about the car. The salesman sits us down and we begin the usual BS! He then tells me that they are selling the car for 16.9k. My mouth drops, and exclaim that 2 years and 35k miles ago the car cost 17.7k. I explain to him that the car was only worth 15.5k to me, and he basically said he could do nothing for me. Fine, I shake his hand and get up to leave. Then he begins to ask more BS questions to get me to sit back down. He then asks if I would pay 16k for the car. Ok, now he wants to bargan. So I told him that it depends on what he would give me for my 2k1. I told him I wanted 13.8k and I would pay the 16k. (car is a 5 speed ex equiped with the wing, body kit and some other extras.) After speaking with his manager he comes back and explains that they cant take less than 16.5k for the car. I told him he and his manager were nuts! (500$ isn't that big of a deal but they were jerking me around.) Then he starts going on about how these cars are a rare find, bla, bla, bla. Meanwhile my friend is sitting there with a 2k1 type R. Which he bought used for 19k (24k brand new) with only 9k miles. Now type R's are rare, not Si's. And what the hell the new si is out and is only a couple grand more than this used POS. I told the guy I would not do business with him and walked out of the building.
Then I come on this board and read about how our cars are too slow and can not be made to do anything. Well I autoX every oppertunity I can and am known to do a little spirited driving every now and again on I95. And I can say I am fairly impressed with the 2k1. I used to own a del Sol si, which had the "terrible" d16z6 motor, which couldn't produce any power. Well with some simple bolt-ons and some slight electronic mods, I managed to reach a normally aspirated hp number of 149 at the flywheel. And after putting her on a little diet, she faired pretty well.
So this is the rout I plan on taking with the 2k1. Do some simple bolt-ons tweak some things here and there and put her on a diet. So far I've managed to skweak 135 flywheel hp. And realisticly have droped about 100lbs. off of the car.
So I say screw them dohc bastards!
and screw honda dealerships that jack up the prices of civic si's!
my 2 cents

He didn't say CIVIC 2k1 Type R, he just said Type R... meaning INTEGRA.
EDIT: I assume when you saw "2k1" after Type R, you immediately thought "2k1 Civic." I almost did, too... and I was like, "2k1 Type R?" The only one is the Integ. Damn that car makes me horny...

Oh, and I almost forgot... what electrical tricks did you do? I know that's one way to get HP out of a car, and though a DOHC Honda would blow the door panels off of your car still, I am at the most... glad you're satisfied.
Spider, I have read 3 threads so far where you call people morons.
settle down with the flaming---->some people misread phrases or sentences and others are misinformed about certain info. Overall, we are all here to learn from one another.

I dont recal using the word "civic" after 2k1!
I like the idea of loosing the doors, they are at least 25lbs. each! haha! Anyway the del Sol ran a 15.3 in the quarter. So, yes it still didn't have dohc vtec power numbers, but it faired well and handeld like a damn go cart!
