Just wanna know what you guys think of the Neon SRT-4's. anything you know of those cars good or bad. are they good quality cars?
They arent terribly cars, nor are they the best.
I just find that the majority of the people I have encountered with this car are total jack offs who think they have the god of all cars.
They always give me some kind of attitude like my car is not as good just bc its not as fast or that I shouldnt modify my car becuase its slow no matter what.
Eh i just have rims drop and a kit becuase I like the look of my car, I don't ever try to race anyone but I get put into that boy rice racer category bc my car looks the way it does and isn't "fast".

the hell what anyone thinks of a civic. they've been around the longest. thats messed up about that. i was just wondering if i should trade my civic in for one of those. i'll just leave it stock and just get rims and tires for it. but i don't think those cars are the fastest cars. they are fast and strong but people that ride in those shouldn't let their heads get too big. I don't race either. but i'd sure love to have one of those cars. i'm thinking of trading my civic in for one of those. yes, i'm STILL looking to trade. if not. than i'll just dump alot of money into my civic. which i don't know if i really want too. i just want to try another car. maybe american this time. the Neon SRT-4 is the ONLY totally american made car i'd buy. sorry for your experience with *******s in those cars. i'll sure not be that guy if i get one.

i agree 100%. If I wanted a fast car I would of bought an SRT. I bought my civic for a lot of other reasons...at least the srt is a much better car than it's previous gens...you just might be happy with the trade..take it for a test drive only then you'll really know...Originally Posted by AzNmiKex215

From what I've read on this site, the majority of people here hate them. This is due, in part, to the type of people that drive them, as mentioned above. The SRT-4 is pretty quick, but is built to the same standards of quality as most other cars from the big three. Those standards as a rule aren't very high. And worst of all, the SRT-4 is ugly. Chrysler claims it not a Neon SRT-4, just an SRT-4, but it looks like a neon. If you want something that fast, save up a larger down payment and get a WRX. Just my opinion, tho.
everyone bashes them because of the import vs domestic topic but they're pretty quick. I have a k20r swapped civic and i lost to that car. The evo is better though, but if you don't want to spend as much, srt4 is a good choice. They're definately "good quality cars". Its chrysler and my dad has a hemi 300c, their motors are not the greatest. If you want to buy that car for a few years then sell it, its ok. But they're not cars that last the way toyotas and hondas do.
i like the look of the Neon SRT-4's. the WRX is way overpriced. i don't wanna get into a car thats no more than 20K. and even so, thats still too much. i never knew that the Neon SRT-4 drivers were A-holes!. I just like the look. and i like how they already come with some kinda horsepower and turbo and all. eventhough i wouldn't race it cause it'll be my daily driven car. i need to get to work and back. I'm thinking of just getting one of those. i've been in one of those cars one time before. i really liked it!. they sound sick to the max with their stock mufflers and that BOV. i dig those cars alot.
thats also what i wanted to know. do they last like hondas?. cause i'll take care of it and stay on top of it all the time. i don't wanna push it too much for too long cause i know there are chances to be taken with a car thats turboed like that. don't wanna blow anything. what do you know of those cars breaking?. if you know anything from reading or hearing?

I honestly think that if you take care of the car, and do proper maintenance like you should and not push it over the limit like you said you won't do... you should not have much of a problem. Like kasim said "they won't last as long as honda & toyota cars" but if your not gonna push it to 200 k miles and will eventually trade within a few years or so you should be ok.
Could also try a new sc cobalt or reline ion. I would stick to the civic, f*** what everyone else says, there is alwya going to be a faster car out there. Get a used ex civic, dezod turbo kit, and see then what that neon can do!! I hope people arent still buying civics because they think their fast! I have owned 2 civic's, one witha b18c swap, 3 accords in the last 10 years and gave one to my mom for 7000, still got my 92 wich runs great, sold my 97 civic (swaped) for 6000, and still drive my 7th gen. I love them all, and could care less if the srt is faster, it is a fu**ing neon!! It looks gay, and i still get 35 mpg, with crap bolt ons! Srt cant say that
Get a used WRX and go show them how the imports hang, **** they invented the originall OG turbo car, at least the only one that counts!! Dont let no one tell you your honda sucks, cause you'll be rolling for years with proper mait., while the srt is broke down in the shop!!

true true, i'm not getting a Neon SRT cause i wanna be faster. it's cool though that it DOES have more HP than my 02 civic EX now but i'm not into racing. i just want the HP when i need it. i'll NEVER go 200 MPH or anything like that LOL. i never even go any faster than 80 MPH with my civic NOW LOL!. i just wanted to trade up on something a bit more stronger and a bit more HP and a different style. another plus is that i think that the SRT Neon is smaller in size from bumber to bumber than my civic EX. thats also what i'm looking for too. for me, "the smaller the car, the better" i don't like too long of cars. i also hear that the insurance rates aren't very high with the Neon SRT's also. i know i'll pay more a month on an 05 Neon SRT-4 but as long as it's not too much. i'm paying 225 now on my civic and i think i can spare 100 dollars more a month. the only problem now is,...finding a 2005 Neon SRT-4 that is STOCK. i don't want anything that has been tampered with cause i know it has been abused and raced. and i don't want a lemon.
OH, and i never thought that HONDA's SUCK....NEVER.
OH, and i never thought that HONDA's SUCK....NEVER.
srt4 is a pos. breaks down every day almost. i knew someone with it, said he was racing one night and now in the shop for a few weeks getting the entire engine rebuilt (under warranty).

"he was racing one night". racing any car would break it PERIOD. that "one night racing" isn't me. i've never not 1 time in my life raced anyone....ever. so that "one racing night" wouldn't be me so i wouldn't have that messed up Neon SRT in the shop getting the engine rebuilt under warranty. thats were your buddy went wrong gearbox. I DRIVE TO LAST.
and...UGLY!, HOW IS THIS CAR UGLY?

I like the eyelids especially.
the rims are eh, ok. i'd get black or branz-whatever.

^^ bro... the car's turboed, how can you not push it... its built to be pushed. But maybe thats just one case. My friend has a turboed EM2, you should see how often he has to work on his car. He's already replaced his once already.
There are other factors that could have effected the outcome that nite. If you build any motor the right way, shouldn't have issues. Even if its stock, if you drive it the wrong way, it will go.
And that looks nice! I love OZ superleggeras.

Wow!! I said dont let no one tell you hondas suck, not you saying they suck.
I dont get it you wanted opinions right? I highley doubt you wont be cruising in a turbo car, but if you dont, why do you want a turbo neon anyway. Just to have it to show off!! And sorry but srt's are gay to me, very ugly sooped up neon. If you like them good for you, but it is a dodge, and honda will be running alot longer with mait., that is just a fact!!
I think i'll buy a turbo, just to have it, not to race, just to say i have one!
After all thatr talk of people giving you the cold shoulder over having a civic, your going to become one of them, but you dont race, RIGHT. Congrates
Guess you'll be joining another forum then!!!!!!

ive floored the gas plenty of times in my civic and its holding up fine. you shouldnt have to baby a car especially not a fast one. why was it even built if you have to drive it like a civic to keep from falling apart?
Id say go for it, i almost did but i didnt because mine is almost payed off and i didnt want to start another 5 year loan again yet. As far as being called a POS i think thats more of a opinion. I live less than a mile from the drag strip in union grove and ive seen way more DSMs and SUBYs braking than SRT4s. And for 5000 to 10000 dollars less i think there great cars.If your goin around bangin gears stuff is going to brake on any car.
now I don't think the topic sucks...I also think John came to the right place to ask this question. Why? because if he was to goto an srt forum they would be unbiased telling him honda's suck and what not and to get the srt because it's faster blah blah blah... asking the question here will fish out the unbiased folks and he might just get an answer with some good reasons that might sway him to keep the civic or maybe go for the srt. he clearly stated he didn't wanted to race and he would like some more power there's nothing wrong with that. he just needs to remember that when you make sacrifice for one thing you lose on something else...in this case he's gonna lose reliability. If that's what would really float his boat and he's willing to sacrifice reliability and go for some power and a few more trips to the mechanic shop with the srt..then that just might make him happy. That's if John thinks it's worth it of course....
I think it looks ugly, as said, it looks just like a tarted up Neon.
Is it 4 wheel drive? It sounds like a cut price Impreza from what you guys are saying only not as good?
What power have they got?

There will always be a car faster then the next(to a certain extent). The SRT-4 is faster then our car stock and for power freaks is a great deal for a great price. I know plently of people who own SRT-4, none of them are ****** at all. Its a stereotype. You know how its really annoying to hear people bash hondas about not being fast (which they do OWN if done right.lol), well im sure they feel the same way with the whole "your an a$$hole if you drive a SRT-4". I have drivin a honda, lexus, acura, BMW, chevy, ford, Subaru and a Lincoln....my point is.... i havent changed one time becuase of the car I was driving. If you like the look of the car (which i think looks pretty good) and the motor for the price. get it. If not, dont. The end

i dont hate the car, hell, i think its pretty quick.. i just hate the majority of the people that drive it. everyone (minus one person) i've met that drives it thinks their hot **** because "its not a neon, its an srt-4! do neons have turbos??" and they think they're the fastest person on the road.. this one guy i knew back in one of my navy schools got one and thought that by replacing his stock BOV with a mopar BOV it'd give him more power..
HOWEVER, there is that one exception i mentioned above.. he was a cool *** guy, and his neon srt-4 (and yes, he, too, called it a neon) was dyno'd at 505whp before his 75 shot and his intercooler sprayer.. then again, he had mad traction problems because of it..

Just my opinion, but I have always hated the look of the neons. They look like a bubble. It's not a domestic vs import thing. I also don't like the way a toyota echo looks or most eclipses. The neon however is at the top of my most ugly cars list. It is too rounded everywhere. I like some straight lines to be in there someplace.
If you are looking for grade A interior, don't buy the car. If you are looking for something quiet, don't buy the car. If you can't get over the fact that it is a Neon, don't buy the car. Buy the car though, if you enjoy the fact that Mopar makes a ton of supporting mods for it which have all been tried/true. Buy the car if you want something that is relatively simple yet decently powerful. It is hands down one of the best cars you can buy at 20K. When the cars are driven right and built up right they can hang with the best of them, not just intake and bov. It is a good buy and you will have fun if you buy one.
The interior is actually probably one of the nicest available for the price of the car. Oh and I dunno how much cars are around you Hoosier but 20k? Your about 5k over what the 2003 models cost here. I see some older models go for around 12k. And the main reason why so many people buy them is not to build them up properly, but instead because they are already build up properly from factory.
wow... ppl are so close minded on this forum... People here don't have any love for cars, just Hondas.
Fine, just say you don't like a certain car, but people always end up bringing up a civic and how its the ****! I've even heard a civic being compared to a BMW on this forum, civics are better because BMWs are overpriced... lol.

The interior is simple, I'm not saying it's bad, it has everything you need and nothing else. The brand new 04's and 05's were going for 20K when they were in production, sure you can buy an 03 for 12K that has a shitload of miles on it and has been beaten to hell. And what I meant by building them up is don't just do intake and bov like a lot of SRT owners due. Build something that is unique and not just the same old intake/exhaust mods.Originally Posted by HonCivX02

Have you ever seen the interior of a SRT-4? The seats alone that come with the car are nicer then other cars complete interiors lol. I checked Edmonds out of curiousity on your 20k comment. A 2005 with less then 40,000 miles normally goes for around $15,800. Never seen the 20k mark.Originally Posted by Hoosier282

You definetly came to the right place for the subject though. Lot of mixed emotions on them i see!

Thats true!!
He said new!!!! NEW!!! Plus the interior arent anything special. Once again buy one if you want, but why promote a car you never even owned? Is the civic that bad? They both go for around the same price, new (ex), and used. That says something for the civic!!
