what type of gas do u guys use?
<< was told to use only regular unleaded. >>
The owner's manual says anything over 86 (or 87). Doesn't really matter... as long as I go to Cheveron.
I'm like you, Id.
Always been wondering on this especially with the gas prices going up I am running the best I can get out here 91 octane, but I may drop down again if I start driving again more often. But started running 87 in my old Civic and it ran better on it but I just saw my gas burn hella faster with 87 when I bought the car and they gave me a full tank versus the 91 I am using.

like I said in the other gas post, I run 91 and only 91.... i get better gas mileage on 91. I have an ex so the extra compression might play into this. I constantly check my mileage with every fillup, I get about 33-34mpg on 87 and 38-39mpg on 91...
The engine is designed to run on REGULAR (87 in my area).
USE REGULAR.
If you had an Acura MDX, whose manual states, USE PREMIUM (93 in my area),
then use premium.
DON'T use premium in your Civic unless you need it for some reason; like your engine
builder said you need it because of the supercharger, turbocharger, higher compression
from milling the heads, etc...

using anything besides 87 octane doesn't really help at all. it just drain your cash faster.. the engine is design for 87. so don't waste your dough using 92 or 89
wait one question. . . you guys are using the lowest gas. . 87 or 89 here in cali. . the lowest gas or you using the middle one??? i use the highest one. . and from the threads i've been reading im going to switch low when im going to get gas when im on empty. . reply asap about this! quetsion again is. . the gas you guys are using is the LOWEST grade of gas or is it the MIDDLE ONE?
yeah but what kind of engine. . aren't Vtec suppose to use the middle one or up. . . if you got mods on the engine, like DC heads, intake, and exahust. . your car isn't the ULEV car anymore. . you put more air into it and out of it. . .soo yeahs. . .what kinda of gas? for an EX civic vtec with air intake and exahust. . .
Lowest grade of gas.....

Minor mods like intake & exhaust do NOT increase cylinder pressure, hence no need for higher octane fuel.

Hey Hitler, go ahead and use 87 all you want, I get better mileage on 91... I have an ex with some mild mods but 4-5mpg more is WORTH IT...
"Higher Octane Gas is harder to ignite" - this is a stat that is technically true, but you dont notice it until you're going with way more octane, our plugs have no problems whatsoever with 91-92 octane gasoline
"higher octane gas burns slower" - again this is a stat that is technically true, but our weee little motors aren't taking advantage of the "faster" 87 octane gas, so we're not going to go losing like 50000hp because we use 87 gas.
Use whatever you wan't there fuhrer, I'll stick to 91

I'm sure you weren't calling me Hitler.
The manual clearly states what gas to use.
As for your perceived improvementin MPG, good for you. Perhaps the
"improved" gasoline that Californians get nets a better MPG than
the 49-state regular gas.
If the Honda engineers recommend 87 octane fuel, I'll use it.
Like they say, YMMV...

Damn, I've been using 93 in my EX sedan since I bought it in December of 2000, and I only fill up once a week (and I do alot of driving). . .I think this week I'll try 87 to see how it goes. If it lasts all week, I'll stick with it. If not, I'M COMING FOR ALL YOUR CANDY A$$E$!!! j/k

theres no way you could get results like these unless the real difference was the change from winter 87 octane gas to summer 91 octane or there is something wrong with your car or the gas or a change in your driving style, the higher octane will get slightly LOWER gas mileage the 87 octane in our cars
I just bought that NOS Octane Boost
hmm gonna try it out this weeekend
hey im bored gimme a break LOL jus thought i would try it out
supposed to boost the Octane by 2 or so
so 94 from sunoco + this = 96 octane
u know in ASIA they sell 98 octane? thats wha i heard n e wayz

HEHE they have 100 octane racing fuel out here in Phoenix at special locations here is the link then go under stations if you wanna try a fill up with that stuff Race Fuel Stations 100 Octane
Tempted just one time to try it heard the going rate was like $6 a gallon but for one fill up I would do it

All octane is is the resistance to self-detonation (knock). If you can run 87 octane without knocking (which all of us can), then running anything higher is just a waste of money. Guys who use 100 octane gas are the ones who are running 15-20 lbs. of boost and usually have to tone down their boost whenever they switch back to normal pump gas.
some people are saying that they get better milage if they use higher octane (91 or higher).
but ur really not saving any money even if u are getter better milage because its costing so much more.
so if ur using 87 and getting 4-5mpg less than it would be the same as if ur paying more for 91 and getting a little more milage.
am i right?
87 all the way

Nick,
Simply filling up with higher octane fuel will not give you any more power. There's actually a greater
possibility that you will actually LOSE some power by doing this.
In order to take advantage of higher octane gasoline, whose only property is its RESISTANCE TO IGNITION when compared to lower octane gasoline, you must increase cylinder pressure by increasing compression. You can have the heads milled to reduce the size of the combustion chamber or pressurize the combustion chamber with a turbocharger or supercharger.
Of course, these modifications are "permanent" and would require higher octane fuel ALL the time.
Have a nice day.

no actually, in a thread called "gas" i worked it out to about a savings of 1.50 a fillup, b/c I get about 40-50mi extra a tank

Yep, though I say that 87octane - 91octane isn't much, and I get better mileage blah blah blah, going to 100octane is just too much, and like SoFlaCivic said, you can lose power
