Question Worth it?

Basically, I love my Civic....but...I'm tired of being the slowest guy around....and I need something faster. My car isnt completely payed off yet, but I'm thinking about trading it in for something else as soon as it is.

The car I've been eye-ing as the Civic's replacement is the 2003 turbo-WRX Impreza...or "bug-eye". Would slightly down-grading year wise, be worth it in the long run, with the power increase and all? oh, ive got a 2004 VP Civic coupe. Im guessing I could get around 10-12 for trade in, then if I can find a decently priced/used bug-eye, I think it would be around 15K-17K. So I would only be paying around 5K for it, with the trade in.

This isnt a for sure thing. I had considered a K-swap, but after thinking about it, trading in for a faster car would be less, and more effective. Your thoughts/opinions appreciated...

I know the feeling. I've become quite attached to my car and have spent a decent amount of time and money making it my own. And this is the first small, semi-fast car i've had. Everything before this was just reliable, cheap transporation for me. Like you, though, I have begun to realize that stock, our cars really are mostly for economy, and not performance. I don't have the know-how to do a turbo or swap, so I'm also left with the option of upgrading. Subaru and Mitsubishi make cars that are a lot faster stock. The WRX would be a good choice if you're really bothered by the lack of power in our cars. However, depending on your financial situation, it may make more sense to keep the Civic. Our cars do get decent gas mileage, and they're reliable as hell. You won't spend a fortune fueling or fixing a Civic. I'm gonna keep my car for a while for those reasons. None of my friends are into sport compacts, so I really don't have a huge inferiority complex when it comes to my car. It does suck, though getting spanked by any one of the hundreds of WRXs around where I live. Then again, I am able to embarass all of these douches in neons, cavaliers and all these other chunks of crap coming from domestic car companies, while still being able to drive 350 miles on $30 gas. If you lose sleep over getting beat by other cars, I guess you should upgrade, but if cash is tight, you might want to keep the newer, cheaper to fix car. Let us know what you decide.

Do it, WRX is a nice ride, not sure what place would give you that much for trade-in, but selling it, different story.

Yes, and no. I can't pull them over if they win, but you can kick a lot of *** with a 6.0L turbo diesel. You get the people in the right lane that try to beat you off the line so they can cut you off to avoid the parked cars on the other side of the intersection. They usually end up having to brake, and drop in behind me. I don't like being passed.

yeah, it is...after looking more into it, found that even if i got all the little scratches and what not takin care of, returned to close as stock as i can, and whatever else - it'll be closer to between 8500-9K

I want a car thats just as fast, as it is good lookin. And i think the bug-eye gets around 20-25mpg, which isnt too far from out cars....ugh..i just dont know...
