Emissions Test
I have a few questions for you guys about emissions tests. I was reading in another post where someone was saying that the Civics are categorized as ULEV vehicles and that most mods will result in a failed smog test. Are there different levels for different cars? I.E. does a 2000 Civic have a lower standard because it is not ULEV and only LEV? I'm just curious, in Florida we don't have emissions tests so it doesn't matter here. I also thought that the law was only real picky in California. Do most states have emission tests or do they exist in a few select states?

I believe so, meaning that an aftermarket turbo on a LEV civic doesn't have to be as clean as one on a ULEV civic
at least to be street legal...

illinois has them!
deseil fuel vehicles and card over 25 years, old dont have to be tested. people in rural areas don't have them also. only metro people. all cars/ trucks have to meet one fixed set of guidelines. i 'm happy the 2k1 is ulev that means i could mod the $hit out of it and it would still pass.

Yea, I think the ulevs are held to higher standards than levs, non-levs, etc.....I was wanting the hp header. Have to mod to get it to fit is bad, but having to switch my stock and hp out to pass emissions every year would totally bite the big one.
My old car(crustang) failed the emissions test a couple years ago. I had to pay $300 to make it legal, and then 2 weeks later they away with Florida emissions tests.

I know that Massachusetts has adopted California's emission control laws. I don't know how strict these laws are though. Do you really have to stick with the emissions rating of your car? Meaning that if your car is ULEV it has stricter emissions requirements than a LEV car? I think emissions requirement vary by year and not by model, but I'm not sure? Anyone know for sure?

Hey FocusKiller, when was it you had to have an emissions test on your car in Florida? I've always lived in Florida and I have never had to get an emissions test. Was that I city/county specific test? I'm pretty sure Florida never went state wide with an emissions test, but I've only been driving for 7 years, could have been before that.
A lot of the states have adopted the California Standard Emissions test...they are the strictest emissions tests. I'm not sure about mods resulting in a failure of a smog test, however.
