The GT version has 180hp with a celica engine in it so it should have something of an aftermarket supply. The base i think only has 123. I have seen them up close and they are really small. I would rather have a Mazda PR5, but that is just me.
There are a lot of people here who don't like it, but personally I think it looks pretty bad ***. And Toyota only calls it a hatchback because they don't want to scare away a younger audience by tagging the "stationwagon" name to it. It basically is a stationwagon, just shorter... Toyota/Lexus did the same thing with the IS300 Sportcross. Everyone knows it's a stationwagon. But nobody wants to call it one...
EDIT: The XRS has the 180hp Celica GTS engine...

I think the Matrix is hideous looking! (But that's me.) I think it's too big to be really called a hatchback.... and judging by the size of it, it could almost pass as a sport-utility.

Gotta say that the silver corolla in the commercials looks good with the body kit. And yeah the matrix has a good chance of being big for tuners with it's 180 hp celica GT-S engine. That engine has been in the celica since 2000 and there's an assload of parts for it!! Any word on how much room is in the engine bay for it? That's one of the reasons our civic doesn't have any FI parts, lack of space
