Body kits and car value

When i was 16 my parents helped me buy my brand new 03 civic. Within a year i managed to crack the front and rear bumpers, so I decided that if I was going to pay for new bumpers, might as well upgrade to a body kit. I am having my second thoughts though.

I have really been thinking about selling my car for an older beater so that I can have some money for when i go back to college in a month, but since my parents helped my buy it, they refuse to let me do so. (Cars in their name)

My question is: Will this body kit cause the value of my car to degrade faster than if it didnt have one at all? I think it most likely will. If I were sell it now, the car is somewhat new and a kit is still pretty cool. But 10 years from now, I cant see too large of a market out there for a 13 yr old riced out civic. So any input would be appreciated, thanks.

Simple rule about modifiying cars.... The more you do, the less the car is worth to the general public. to a "tuner" or some one who doesnt know better you may get a decent price, but to a dealership (trade in) or to joe schmow and his wife... mods are un-wanted.

I think it all depends on who you're selling the car to. If you're selling it to someone who is into that kind of stuff, they might pay a little more. But for me personally, I don't like body kits so that would lower the value of the car to me. I'd pay more for a car that has never seen a mod versus a car which is heavily or lightly modded. But like i said before, it all depends on the buyer.

* I agree 100% with Zzyzx. Saw his reply after i posted mine.

Yea I agree, I think the only way I am going to get rid of this car now or in 10years is to an ignorant high school student, which sucks.
