Evo
Wow, you're going to get a lot of varied and contradictory responses. Good luck sorting through them all. Welcome to the site. But here's the thing on Evos. They're economy cars reworked with world-class engineering. Are they worth the money? Depends on what you want them for. First and foremost, they're all-wheel drive. Which means you're gonna have the maximum amount of traction, ALL THE TIME. Downside to this is that the drivetrain wastes a lot of power, and by that I mean they're not very efficient. They're not very good for straight-line speed, but they're definitely fast enough.
Supercar performance for around $30k. In the performance world they are consider the best bank for buck you can get. Throw a grand in mods and tune and you've easily got a mid 12 second car, some have broken into the
12's stock on the IX. I got mine for 27.5k so their is nothing even close to that price I would take over this car.

i would take it over a 350z because i think 350z's are everywhere, i only see an evo like once a month if that but i would take one in a heartbeat. I love how they look

Definitely overpriced in my opinion. For 28k you can get a 2002 ZO6 that will kill the EVO both in the twisties and in a straight line. Add an air intake for $200 and headers for $700 and you got a mid 11 sec car. Better yet put a 150 shot on it and have 500 WHP for under $1000.

Got bang for the buck. Test drove the MR and love every bit of it. when you run it on boost it just feels like an orgasm for every shift. Power are plenty and can be better than a two door coupe. But its all based on preference. Ill love it no matter what.
Its AWD, more then enough power, 4 door, not hard to look at (imo), and fun as hell to drive.
Just look at its competitors, like the STI obviously...
350z, mazdaspeed 6, just to name a few....
Try out every car possible in your price range, and decide based on what YOU like.

i'm not the biggest fan of awd. it's great, but i'd rather have rwd... the evo is kinda race-boy looking, to me. i can think of several cars i'd rather have, but the evo, for what it is, is still a pretty damn nice car with plenty of potential.

Evo....... well, it's a Lancer with a 4G63. It depends on what youre looking for and how deep your wallet is. If youre only looking to go fast and have traction, it's a good buy. Easy to make power, tons of aftermarket support, fun to drive. Dont be fooled by the fairly cheap entrance fee of around $30K. The car is the 2nd most stolen car, has high insurance, and expensive to own and maintain. Front brake pads costs $400! It's got a economobile sized gas tank, so put a few mods, race it a little, and you'll be filling up the tank of that car VERY often. 350Z may be better b/c it's cheaper to maintain but it's tougher to make power..... so if going fast is your main concern, this car may be for you.

I agree the evo is a performance junkie's dreamcar 0-60 in 4.7 sec. thats faster than the charger SRT 8 and the new GTO. AWD can't beat it and with enough cash and tuning = amazing power gains i read in Turbo mag. they had an evo @ 689hp on 40 psi of boost

This is my opinion only so dont get defensive. Tell you what is even better, get the C6, put about $1200 into a direct port, fuel rail nitrous injection system from NX with a 180 shot (which it will handle with ECM tuning) and you have a 530WHP/650WTQ monster for under $40k. What do you think? Oh yeah and you will still get 28-30MPG on the highway at 75MPH with the cruise on and the insurance will be half that of an EVO.

I have all the respect in the world for Z06 Vettes. I see any Vette is the same way, as the definative performance vehicle of its price class, it has looks and is a true sports car. I'm not a domestic car lover infact the Z06, C5 or of course the C6, are the only domestic cars I would own(not that I could afford them). If you looking at performance the Vette is the best car for the money at $40k-50k, and the Z06 for any thing $60k-70k+ it has the performance of $200k-300k supercars. For $30k it is the Evo and the SRT-4 was it for $20K+. I've heard the argument about these car interior looks, materials, comfort not matching there price tag. I'm just one of those people who would rather see my money put into big brembos brakes, stiffened chassis, sticky tires, and a great suspension rather than more "upscale" interior materials or a more "classy" or comfortable layout. So I'm willing to compramise having the interior of a sub $15k-20k car, I don't think its that bad in the Evo IX, for the performace of a $50k-60k car. Well my insurance is to bad I pay $130/month for a 00 Celica GT-S and the 06 Evo, I just turned 25 so it should be less now.

What is the fastest EVO you have seen in the 1/4 mile? We had a guy that had about $4k in his car and it went 12.2@117MPH. I could do that with $500 headers and an air intake in a C5. I guess I will just have to see some of the big money EVOs that can run fast times. It takes alot of HP (boost) to get fast which equates to a built bottom. They are heavy (AWD system) but get great hole shots with that AWD. There are good and bad to the cars as with all. I have driven all of the cars discussed in this thread and for the "small" amount more you pay for a vette there is absolutely no competition. IN MY OPINION ONLY. Thanks
if i had the money for an evo i would get it.
amsperformance.com inspires me.
around here you see evos and sti everyday.
im still true to my z32tt though. i love the 90's japanese sports cars.

not built well IMO. if you are looking for an awd almost rally car, look at some subarus. if you are looking for speed and handling, look at other cars.

Yeah. Let me know how that goes for you.
The only thing worth arguing about these cars is their looks. 350Z is like sex on wheels, and the Evo is like tasteful rice.
Also, some Evo food for thought: http://web.norrisdesigns.com/Feature...t=1&id=1&cid=0
Possibly the most Bad-*** lancer evolution known to man, bar none.
