my question for the smart people who KNOW

so my stock exhaust has been chillin outside for 6ish months... i dunno what may be living in that thing but one day I may want to put it back on my car... so onto the question: can I, or HOW can I, "clean" out the exhaust?

can i use water, let it dry in the sun and cover both ends of the exhaust and store it?

or, does that idea sound rediculous? I will let it dry for a while now, don't get me wrong.

if I'm a moron then I ask... HOW do I clean out my exhaust? thanks fellas and ladies

it shouldn't matter. just use a vacuum to blow air through it or something. as long as there's nothing flammable, it should all get blown out or burnt with the exhaust gases.

exactly. you could wash it out if you wanted to, but i see no real reason too. there's probably nothing in it, aside from some dust, pollen, etc.

if water or moisture got into the exhaust while it sitting still for so long, it could very well have formed rust on the baffles inside the muffler.

if definite that there's no rust, not much harm in flushing it out like you said. make sure all the water comes out - use a good vacuum or you'll have to shake & turn the muffler A LOT because the inside is like a maze. a few leftover drops wont matter because it will vaporize after back onto the car.
**BUT this does not mean all you other drivers should jam a water hose down your cars tail pipe**

also you want to make sure nothing else got in there. solid stuff like pebbles will make rattling noises. leaves or small animals will give off a burining smell.

edit: i type too slow gearbox summed it up

hyperhonda2k2 is an unknown quantity at this point
you dont really need to clean it unless it got filled with water then you need to poor it out, but the exhaust temps get to over 800 degrees inside the muffler.

i use the word "clean" lightly, i'm just making sure there are no animals, bugs, etc. in it before i put it in storage

if you can, find a friends car and stick your exhaust at the end of his and see what happens.
