What the hell!!??

Could somebody explain me this?? I was driving around, and I see a red light, it was still far away, so I shift to neutral because it is a little hill, not too much. As I aproach the light, I try to change to the next lane, but surprisingly, my steering seems dead!!, then I look at the gauges and see the engine is dead. Luckily I had time to turn it back on and stop in time.

This is the second or third time this happens, could somebody tell me what´s going on???

pretty sure you can't stall out in neutral, especially not moving. time to get your car looked at.

i think this was discussed before something a bout the ulev, if you shift to neutral after gassing it the rpms drop down fast to save fuel but since you were in neutral it goes down to much cause theres no strain on the engine, (you are not suposed to be crusing in neutral any way)
so the engine dies i think thats what was said try a search

quick question do you have a stock radio or an aftermarket one?

i crossed the orange and orange/white wires on the harness for the radio

i short circuted my gages. and it smelled shaddy. the car ran like a$$ to during this time . dealer fixed the gauges $500 later.

i had some of your symptoms of your problem. also, what mods are in the car? any performance or electrical?

i think this has happened to me twice, actually it has happened twice and i think both times i was messing round in neutral. Your steering wheel locks, can barely turn the ****. Lights r on the dash etc etc. 1st time it happened i pulled over and restarted np at all, 2nd time it happened as i was slowing down i dropped it into gear, was goin 45 mph when it locked, decided at 20 mph to put it in 2nd and the car just kicked back up like nothing ever happened. Has not happened to me in over 6 months but i think i was flyinh both times and put it in neutral to cruise.

<edited for unintenional flame> You should never be cruzing in neutral, even to a stoplight. You should be downshifting, so if something were to happen, you would be in the proper gear to be able to move outta there.

not a flame or nothin but when im rollin up to a stop light i know exactly where im at, i hold the clutch and keep the stick in neutral, and once i need to go i drop it into the right gear...never fails. I know how to drive, now whether this is good for the car i dont know but i never downshift.......i let the mph/rpm's drop and once things start movin i goto the correct gear. I can drive.....easy

What's wrong with driving in neutral? I do it all the time like when I'm coming off the highway. Something wrong when doing that?

i put my car in neutral all the time and that has never happened to me (only 3200 miles so far, so maybe just not yet) i cruise in neutral to save gas. if im coming to a light or stop sign, i can get off the gas sooner than if i was downshifting because the car will take longer to slow down. if im just on a hill i can put it in neutral and keep the same speed without using gas instead of leaving it in gear and using gas to keep the same speed or losing speed with my foot off the gas pedal (if the hill is steep enough that i would gain too much speed on it, ill put it in gear so i dont go too fast or have to ride the brakes). by doing this i used to get 33-36mpg (in the summer) out of my 88 dodge omni (rated 25/32) and ive gotten more than 37mpg out of my 5-speed ex coupe in the winter

preach on Diz....preach on.

I tried to recreate the "lockup" but i couldnt..........hasnt happened in forever so i dont know and when i did stop the car it started right back up. I figured a REAL problem wouldnt be fixed so easy so until i find out whats up, im not gonna sweat it "too" seriously
