paint - autobody question
I have a real nice scrape 5" x 5" across the rear bumper on my Civic.
It's not real bad, but I want it fixed. Is it possible to have the area masked, painted and cleared while its on the car? Shop A said they would need to remove the bumper, paint the area, then clear the whole bumper. Shop B said they could mask it and paint and clear it on the vehicle. What should I do? I don't want the clear to peel away, are there any benefits to shop A's approach? What is everyone's advise?

most likely shop a will bake it for a lil bit so it will last longer...i would prefer to have the piece removed to be painted, because shop b will mask off the part of the bumper but not the entire car so you will probaly end up with either base or clear coat overspray on the rest of the car..shop a will cost more because more labor is required..you could always remove it yourself and drop it off to save a few bucks
choose shop A, much easier, cleaner, and cost effective way, their would be absolutely no reason to leave it on the car... why would you mask off the entire car and still risk having overspray when it takes less than 5 minutes to take the bumper off?
Shop B= hacks
book time to remove/ install rear bumper is like .4 hours
