Importing a Civic Type R

Hypothetically, I was wondering what would be involved if I were to import a Civic Type R. What conversions would have to be made to make it legal here in the U.S.? Could I legally drive a car where the driver's side is on the right side of the car?

Btw, this thread is just for fun so don't start b*tching about how much it would cost and how I could just buy a M3 instead.

yea you can import it...just alot of paper work, only can keep it here for a year and then you have to ship it back(thats what some guys with lancers and skylines told me before) As most of you know the skylines are here now so you dont have to import those.

Yeah its possible to import them. I have seen some european cars here in florida that had the steering wheel on the other side and it had regular plates and everything. It would probably be madd expensive but possible. Also since u live in ny it might not be as hard as if u live in california cuz of the emissions crap but shipping would be a bitch. Like everyone knows its better to just get a nicer car for the same price.

The emissions probably would prevent it from being sold in the US

Yeah it'd be expensive. It's possible. Anything's possible. Just to give you guys an example: importing a Mercedes s600 would cost $9000 in conversion. And those things are sold here. BTW the reason you would want to import one would be because you can get them much cheaper there, but with the conversion and all that it turns out to be the same price.

hey fourkilos: don't you think about money man. The cars you list are in another price range. Not everybody has that kind of cash.

Join military to get a car home? When I lived on base back when my dad was in the air force, we would see VW's and stuff that are european and they just brought them back when they finished their time overseas. I know that the military pays for you to move a car back home but not sure about the legality of driving them on US roads/emissions and crash tests
