Angry My own personal Hell with a safety

What a pain it was (or still is rather) to safety my damn car over here in B.C. Let's start with the obvious things that I KNEW had to be done...

1) I made an appointment to have the tint taken off the door windows...now the car looks pretty sad if you ask me. I hate it and will likely have it redone at the risk of being pulled over once the safety is done and the car is plated.

2) Scoured what I think was every auto wrecker in the lower mainland looking for a Clock Spring or Cable Reel as it's also known. This is the peice behind the steering wheel with the wiring for the cruise, horn and SRS that Pete so nicely destroyed when he helped me put the EP3 SIR steering wheel on my car way back in the day. He spliced the cruise wires from the new wheel to my OEM harness and effectively ruined the cruise and horn. In order to get the car safetied it needs a horn. Honda wanted $400 for a new Clock Spring :O I managed to find what I think was the only one anywhere at a wrecker for $125 and it was like new!

here's the new clock spring I got from the wrecker..

So I thought that having this part to fix the horn and having my tint removed would be the end of it but Noooooooo not even close.

The shop takes my car to do the inspection. He drives it around and hears what he thinks is a bad wheel bearing on the passenger front. Sure enough it is and to compound that, there's a pin on the caliper that's stuck and it's forced my caliper to destroy the pads on the inside..grrr. So now I need a wheel bearing ($120) and new pads...not to mention the work to free up that pin and get my caliper back to normal again.

So he's waiting for the bearing to come in and is nice enough to machine my rotors for me (for free thankfully). While that's going on he discovers that my ball joint doesn't want to come free in order to change the bearing. I'm guessing these guys don't see rust at all out here given that it doesn't snow...hehe. So he finally has to break it and afterwards can't get me a new one until Monday....so my car spent the weekend on a hoist

I get it back today and the grand total for the shop work alone will be around $600 PLUS the Clock Spring at $125.....AND THEN I still have to take it over and get it plated, and insured The only good news is that insurance is cheaper here thankfully and my speeding tickets don't follow me here either

BUT for those of you in Ontario...I HAD to do this by the weekend cuz my Ontario plates expired on my b-day which was Saturday and being over here in B.C I can't even renew them...lol. Talk about a jam.

Without a doubt, the biggest pain in the *** ever but it was my b-day weekend so Jenny made it all worth it in other ways

honestly I was just joking, that really sucks. My car is in right now for inspection / AT fluid change / and getting a replacement strut.

Luckily Ill only pay for inspection and tranny fluid since I got a warranty thats good till about 86,000 miles and I am just under 71000. Hopefully the strut is covered, but it should be. The only suspension mod is a strut tower bar but there is no way they can blame the bar for that one. That and my family gives the dealership tremendous amounts of business. They are insurance agents (parents) and recommend a lot of people there. To say the least I get treated like a king once they hear my last name.

Hope your car turns out ok in time. good luck

Ah, This is why I love Oregon. The only time I had a car inspected for safety was when I was 16 and the guy made sure my turn signals worked before we went on the drive test

Try Germany. Even worse. Though with good reason. No speed limit on the Autobahn, a lot of cars here would blow up.

happy belated brithday Mike! damn, sorry to hear about all the stupid garbage you had to go through. I guess it would have cost you less to sell your car and buy one in B.C. eh? sucks that the safety ended up to be so much of a hassel

lol...I'm not even close to 40 you lil bitch

if you and sheena move out here, do yourself a favor and sell the civic in ontario and move out here without it. It's simply a massive pain in the *** to get the out of province inspection done and imo wasn't worth the effort but what can ya do.

Bottom line is this...my car is NOW plated and insured in B.C. Now all I have to do is wait for the damn Ministry of Transportation in Ontario to fax my damn proof of drivers experience letter to the ICBC so I can switch my license over. They've been sitting on it for a damn month!
