Evo8 vs. 350z??

The Evo is already turbocharged and the stock engine is strong enough to hold up to 500 HP which means it is VERY easy to make it fast (i.e. turn up the boost and throw in some race gas) where with the 350z you will have to spend THOUSANDS of dollars just for a turbo/supercharger kit. Even after you have spent alot of money on the 350z it will still not be able to get any grip (due to the two wheel drive). The only thing that I like about the Z is it's weight distribution (almost 50/50). The Evo is pretty much superior to the Z in every way imaginable (from a racing standpoint).

HOnestly what do you want out of your car is the quesion you should be asking. You come on here seeking oppions, but it seems like you want more of an approval on what car you want to buy. Seriously I wouldnt narrow my options down till ive taken away all the possibliltys. Before i settled on my civic, i drove every car on the market, Evos, STI's, lexus's, BMW's, Volvo, Hondas, Acuras, You name it i drove it. I didnt just pick 2 cars and go after them. I went for the car that made me feel right, and i could afford. Granted now my 16000 dollar civic costs me as much as either one of those cars, i still wouldnt trade it in for anything. So honestly what do you want? Or did you just go to a shoe box and pick a couple cars out of it? Then post um up and hope someone says something that will make you say "Hey i didnt know that, i want that car now!" Should have just made a poll and not a thread.

Not because it looks like a rice rocket. Actually, go buy a 350z and put a twin turbo on it, and we'll race. This'll be fun.

I havn't posted up on this board in awhile since jan when I got my used 03 evo VIII(10,000 miles) and it is in great condition. There are good used evos out there. Im so glad I got rid of my em2 because if I dumped the same amount of money I did in my em2 into the evo I'd have one fast evo. I love the awd and the performance. The wing is functional over 100 mph. Don't get me wrong I still love hondas but some of you guys are idiots. Wanna turbo a na car hope you got the money to build the motor. 4500 for tt kit plus another 10 grand to get motor built, supporting mods, and tuned-from the mouth of a guy with a turboed 350 I met @ meet. The evo9 plus turboback exhaust, intake, boost controller = 12.2-12.5 sec runs. Thats less than 2grand worth of parts and your'r in the 12s.
good point well made. i run a civic cos its what i can afford. i love hondas in general, but given the choice id run an NSX! (or consider an evo, impreza's arent as good. they're more stodgy through the bends - we have wooded, green tree, twisty roads here in england!- and ive driven both- evos are more positive and lithe in your hands. they give more feed back. )
its all about cost. i'l never turbo a civic, i agree, its wasted cash. all i'll do is nice rims, coilovers and exhaust/header induction kit combo. then i'll move oto a dc5 imported integra type-r. driven one of them too, what a car! the handling and punch were awesome. not for about 3 years though!!!!

"The VQ engine series is not designed for boost. It's a high revving, all aluminum motor. They make it sound like a TT kit is an easy, bolt-on 450whp. Umm yeah OK. You'll have to spend as much on the engine as you would on the turbo if you wanna sustain those kind of numbers for more than an afternoon. Not to mention the drivetrain. I like the lines of the 350Z and I know a few people who own one, but the Evo is in a different league of car when it comes to tunability, handling and crazy HP numbers." ~Evolutionm member in regards to this thread

if i had to go with one id choose the evo. they are sexy as hell. interiors not bad at all i mean it is meant to race. you just gotta ask yourself this. do you like a fast car or a show car. if your answers fast then pick the evo if your answers show then pick the evo lol. they are really sexy and are 4 doors so you have more room just in case kids did come along.
im sure everyone here has good points....i say evo just from having friends that own each and they let me drive their cars alot and the evo just is a better drivers car and i think it looks better...seems fast as hell compared to my turbo vic to....
Whys everyone knocking the evo resale too? In reality its pretty similar, if not better than the Z. just going off blue book value of 2003 with 40k miles and good condition the evo is $21,775, while the comparably priced touring coupe Z is worth $20,460. At some point the evo will just win over the Z cause its got a pretty durable iron block and AWD, its worth paying to keep it alive.

Why anyone would give a 16-18 year old male a quick car is beyond me! Its stupid.

Evos are quite fragile. Its not easy getting anything to run that much pressure safely, and make it last. And AWD systems don't help reliability either.

shiiiit... this only made my decision harder... thanks for all the input guys. especially those of you who have commented on the issue 10-15 times... jesus, last time i check the thread it wasnt even on 2 pages. im impressed.
ive taken all your opinins, points, observations, and references into consideration and as of now im leaning towards the evo... but as of 2 nights ago i was in the opposite direction...
ive actually looked at and researched many MANY different cars, including WRX's, supras, is300s, rsx-s's, etc... and these 2 were the ones that came out on top, didnt just pick them out of a hat.
ill have to go test drive both here this weekend and see which i like the most for myself, ive never even sat in either of them, even tho ive researched both for countless hours, am a member of multiple threads for each, and have gotten many testimonials about both. i dont just wanna sit in one, fall in love with it, and buy it... without knowing the whole story.
thanks again guys, ill let you guys know how it goes after this weekend or within the next week when i have test driven both of them and see where i stand after that.
any more opinions or comments are welcome!
.................................................. ..........................................
EDIT:
hahaha wtf... this thread has actually made it over to evolutionm.net and they are ENRAGED about what you guys have been saying about the evo...
holy ****, ive sparked an evo owner vs. civic owner battle!

Thennn saying we’re jealous cuz you havea 4banger turbo?!??! That made my night…all I have to do is post one pic of whats parked in mine…then you can go add up all the parts you and all your evo buddies spend on your cars. trying to be cool to fit in with the evo crowd or something

rrrriiight dude
im saying i disagree with you guys calling the evo a piece of **** cuz i half worship that car, i just like the Z as well, and yes, all your has been very helpful, but im saying that to the ones of you guys who are ACTUALLY helping me, not the ones who have come in and said a ton of bullshit about a car they know nothing about.
being hypocritical would be saying on here "I hate evos, they are ****" then going to the evo forum and saying "I love evos, they dont know what they are talking about"
big difference.
also, see how u even quoted me saying it "changed my mind to get the evo"... how in any way is what i said hypocritical.
i disagree with how you call the evo ****, i want one, im thinking about buying one, and i told them over there that i disagree with how you're calling the evo ****...
obviously not all of you are saying is a piece of junk, or else none of your input would have been helpful... cuz i find neither car to be a piece of junk, and we all know, neither is.

theres the thread...
FYI, the Z engine doesnt need internal modification until 500 hp. I didnt see anyone refuting the facts I posted in here. And they still didnt address the facts:
1. Z can get into the 10s cheaper than the evo
2. Z is better on the high end than the evo
3. The Z engine outlasts the evo
4. The Z is cheaper than the evo
Its funny that a certain member here has to turn to another forum for help formulating his arguments.

I refuse to post again until there are some real facts presented instead of speculation.

-Iron is very ductile so stress concentration does not have a large effect, aluminum isnt so bad here either
-Iron has a lower coefficient of thermal expasion than aluminum 6.0 to 11.9 10^-6 in/in-degF
-Ultimate Stength 40-50 ksi to Al 29 ksi
-Also ferrous materials that arent strength harden and britle will be able to survive for infinite cycles so long to around half or less than critical stress. Aluminum will fail eventually
To sum it up iron is far superior to aluminum from a reliability perspective for engine block material. And yes the AWD will make reliability worse, but I think people like it enough to make the sacrifice.

thats a good idea, but arent g35s a bit expensive?? im taking your guys' advice and checking out s2000's... they are pretty damn sweet. i really wanna test drive one... anyone here have one and have any input?
you should REALLY consider checking out the s2k's, there's an admin on here that has an s2k and also happens to be an admin on www.s2ki.com check out the website, lots of information on there. i'm looking to get an s2k in a few years so i've been visiting that site pretty often.
and yea g35's are expensive and from what i've heard, they have tranny issues and suspension issues, and it's NOT faster than the Z. and i think stock for stock the s2k is faster than the g35 as well (correct me if i'm wrong, just don't flame on me)

even with a kswap and super charger what would you be pushing 300whp. Then you have the issue of all the wheel spin unless you get a lsd and that might not solve all your traction problems. A stock evo would probaly get beat unless you can't drive, but a lightly modded evo8 could win, and I don't think you'd beat a stock 9. Maybe you got a built motor ontop of the swap and supercharger so how much money is that(probaly around 9grand for evrything-built motor, supercharger, etc.) Put half of that in the evo and your getting smoked again. Im not saying beating a evo is impossible, I'm just saying you can take a evo alot further with less money as far as a tuner car goes.
