Pro's & Con's Of AfterMarket Sunroof/Moonroof
I'm really thinking about having one installed since A/C didn't come with my car. But I want to know some good and bad's about them! Please help!
I'm not sure about the 2k1 civic, but i know installing an aftermarket sunroof in a car like the camaro or firebird requires cutting the roof support, thus killing your safety in a roll-over. Some cars which include sunroofs have extra strength measures incorperated into the roof area to compensate for the sunroof, but like i said, i dont know if the civic is like that. Also, ive always heard that aftermarket sunroofs have a tendency to leak ALOT... ALOT more than stock ones.
Hope this helps

well i think you know the pro's: more air, looks cool, you can let the sun/moon in, cheaper than AC and can be very effective if going fast enough, sometimes cheaper than getting the more expensive car with a sun/moon roof
cons: it can be noisy if you don't have a wind deflector, it can be whistle if its not sealed correctly, IT CAN LEAK <---i think that is the number 1 con, structural integrity (good think the civic isn't a supra!
), leaks that rust the roof
personally the con's aren't really that bad to me and now-a-days i don't hear people complaining about them. if you go to a quality place with a warranty, you'll be str8.

Um, if you're getting a sunroof to compensate for a lack of A/C, that seems pretty weird...
Just roll down the windows...
And about sunroofs...they do add weight, because more roof support is often added by manufacturers when the roof is cut. This is why the 5th gen. Civic hatchback is most desirable in the CX, DX, or VX forms, because they weigh less than the moonroof equipped Si.
Just my 2 cents....

Yeap I think its pretty mucn unanimous that aftermarket sunroofs tend to and will most likely leak eventually. Question is....how long? and will you keep the car that long?
I had an aftermarket moonroof installed on my lx sedan. It wasnt cheap. $800 installed with 2 yr warranty through honda. No problems at all. Doesnt leak, no wind noise etc. Overall im impressed with the work and happy with the result.

I have an LX coupe and had the Honda Dealership install a sunroof for me. I didn't go for the power one though because of the added weight and I really like having 3 settings of how high to put it as well if I want it out totally it takes like 2 seconds. I am very pleased with it, no leaks etc.... while I may get a wind deflector for it because at "very" high speeds it tends to whistle just a little. Hope this helps!

a moonroof is no replacement for a/c. if youve got the money to get one installed, get the a/c instead. i personally dont use a/c much, i got used to not having it in my 88 omni, only time it bothered me was when i had to sit somewhere not moving for a while on a really hot day
