Time to try out another car.

I think I wanna get rid of my civic and get something better. I was thinking of getting something NEW, not USED. So I'm thinking of either getting a 2006 RSX-Type S or a 2006 civic SI. what do you guys think?. I think I may be able to get good money for my 02 civic now if I were to trade it right?-towards a newer car?. Do you guys think that i'd be able to trade in my civic now being that i bought it from a private seller and that i got a loan from my bank when i bought my 02 civic?. I'm just wondering if the bank would STILL let me get another car even if it's new and that i'm not done paying off this loan they helped me with. Maybe they could add whatever's left that the dealership couldn't take on trade and add that to my new car balance? I really need to know what to expect from all this...thanks guys.

Depends on how much you still owe on your loan on your civic. Whatever you roll over into your next loan is gonna be all "negative" financing, meaning now you're gonna owe more than your brand new car is even worth. This that something you want to do?

umm, i owe on my 2002 civic ex, 9,200 dollars. but it's in GREAT shape though. i'm just hoping that they'd give me good trade money for my 02 civic. maybe atleast 8 thousand.i know that maybe they'll add more to the newer car but, i'm hoping that it isn't much. yeah, i really want the RSX Type-S. but those damn cars are like 23 to 24K MSRP. i don't mind paying for a 25 thousand dollar car, ONLY if my payments a month don't go UP too high you know what i mean? i'm paying 225 dollars right now a month for my 2002 civic EX and thats affordable. but, i'm hoping they don't jack up the monthly payments on my new car if I were to get it. if i go from 225 now to maybe 265 or 300 a month. that would be semi-ok but not that bad. i have good credit. i don't have bad credit.

Yep. Expect the dealer to "Pay off" your loan.

However, is a 06 Civic worth all that negative equity? Seriously, you will lost a lot of money for 70 HP, big goofy gauges, and a pretty outside (8th gen).

Personally, PAY OFF your car, THEN look for a new one, because then you will GAIN by having a few thousand for a trade in!

gearbox, you think i should get 10K dollars on trade for my 02 civic? damn i'm hoping that could be possible. i wanna go to a dealership cause i could walk out with a new car and leave my old one there. so i'd still have a ride to work and back. LOL. i've had my 02 civic now for about 1 year. or maybe more. i forgot.

10k private, but dealer should give 8-9k. just gotta bargain with em and leave if its not what you want. just make sure when you go, the car is clean enough to eat off of and sparkling.

i'm pointing more towards an RSX type-S but i've sat in one and loved the way it felt. i'm not going for HP here. just something smaller and more compact and new. something nobody else has had the chance to break in. you know?. and if the dealership pays off my loan that i have right now going for my 02 civic. will my new RSX STILL be 23 or 24 thousand dollars still? or would they take of the old bank loan of 9 K? that would mean that the new RSX would than be like 15 K? or so?

the cars in great shape.

see!. tell me you wouldn't give me good for that?

if the dealer paysoff your car then they are paying your bank loan. so yes you will still have to pay 24k for your car. you should look more into this before you do anything. you dont seem to know much about dealerships and buy cars

no, i kinda figured that much. i was just making sure. eh, if i get a new 06 RSX type-S. i don't mind paying 24K as long as my payments a month don't get JACKED UP a whole lot. thats how i am. in life, the ONLY thing that i'm in "Debt" for would be my car. everything else is always payed off or being payed for on time. damn!, i REALLY want an 06 Type-S!!!!

If you were to finance $24,000 over 72 months with a intrest rate of 8% your payments $420 a month. Or you can plug in your own numbers here:

The only way you could get what you want (with the payments you want) is if your civic were payed off already.

When I traded in my wife's car (she had this piece of crap Cavalier from before I met her) they added the $2500 of negative equity to her new Scion Tc, which brought up the total out-the-door price just below $23k. My payment is $416 with a 60 month financing option.

You need to be careful though since you're new at this whole new car buying thing... You're a salesman's dream customer!!
You don't know much about how financing works and you're only worried about the monthly payment.

well first of all, i'd tell a salesman right to their damn face that i know they're trying to play me. im not THAT stupid. if i don't like what i hear or see. i'm outie. but from what you guys are saying about how high these payments would be. maybe i should just forget about this whole dream of mine to own an RSX?. maybe i should.

would CREDIT, have anything to do with the role of getting a low enough monthly payment? cause i've never had any tickets or never had some credit company looking for me or anything like that. everythings always been payed for on time.

You could maybe afford a new 2006 civic lx and have a payment around $300.00/month if you're lucky. Just something to think about. That's still over what you were wanting to pay for your 2006 RSX Type-S.

Actually a BMW 330 would cost you around 700/month and that's assuming no negative equity from trading in your civic. I assume the Audi A4 is about the same.

If you really want to make it happen sell your car to a private party for as much as you can get. If your credit is as good as you say, you should have no problem picking up a late model type s (yes used). Where most folks get into trouble is with new cars and negative equity as mentioned above.

how far in back in years has the RSX type-S been around?. what year did they start to make the RSX type-S? they all seem to look alike no matter what year!, the 02 looks like the 06 LOL

are you talking about monthly payments on a LEASE?

I don't recall any high end cars advertising leasing for much under 500 or so.. I could be wrong on that tho..

and you do realize that a lease is a long term rental, correct?

Give up the dream man! and traffic tickets aren't really going to have much to do with your credit score...

Keep the civic>>wait till '07>> find someone who did what you WANT to do and got upside down in his payments (or her I guess) >>buy his 06 SI for thousands less than buying it new>>get your $300/month payment

Here's a 2002 RSX Type-S that you could probably get for around a 300/month payment with if you don't have too much negative equity. BTW I just searched in my area for this car. You'll be better off using autotrader with your own zip. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...Door&cardist=9

I got some more bad news.. about the payment thing too... If you are in a business school in college, you should know that Interest rates are going up.. and up..

The BIGGEST deterrent to a high monthly payment is a STRONG DOWNPAYMENT. By me putting just $3,000 down on my Civic, I saved nearly $20 +++++ a month (very conservative number). AutoPay reduced by another $5.

Seriously, keep you car, put a nice healthy $5k down on the RSX you want, just remember this note about your mo. payment:

THE OLDER THE CAR IS THE HIGHER THE INTEREST RATE AND THE SHORTER THE LOAN TERM.

I've worked in bank for over a year, I'm an Accounting Major/Finance minor, trust me, I see this ALL THE TIME. I've nearly made the same mistake you made once (thinking its easy to trade / buy a new car).

Good luck!

well, when did they start to make the RSX? what year? i don't mind (i guess) getting into an older RSX but i hope it's in good shape.

I don't want my 02 civic anymore. i never really wanted that year of civic. i wanted a 2000. i settled for the 02 civic i have now. i'm not TOTALLY happy with it. i want something that offers a bit more and thats more compact and smaller. i'm a (small) car guy. thats why i want the RSX type-S. it's got a great motor with enough HP. and is compact. smaller than the car i have now. and it's more comfy inside. i belive a car like that would make me more happier.

i don't mind getting into an older RSX. i just want some kinda equal trade there. if i get an 02 or an 03 RSX type-S for trade of my car. wouldn't that be an ok equal trade? with the RSX being a bit more? cause it DOES infact offer a bit more. but not by much.

I DON'T WANT A NEW RSX ANYMORE. I'LL TAKE AN OLDER ONE.
