ya if i had to do it over, i would not buy a new car. its just not worth it. just find someone with a 1-4 yr old car and make sure they took care of it well, and thats it. dont buy from some ricer that goes out racing every night. most newer used cars can be restored to like new condition without too much trouble. if you saw my 02 it looks like i just drove it off the lot.

the rsx came out in 2001 as a 2002 model. so the first year for RSX's was 2002. i got my 2002 rsx OTD for $5,000 plus $10,000 the dealer gave me for my 01 civic. my insurance only went up $50/month more.

Because its a stick shift, expect to get around $9k for it trade-in.... but it all depends on the dealer honestly.

Financing basically works like this:

Every $10,000 dollar loan over 5 years at an average APR is about $200 per month.

Do the math..

no i haven't but. now i'm starting to understand. i just thought that it wouldn't be too expensive for me.

would it be stupid of me to "DOWN-GRADE" my choice in cars if i were to go from a 2002 civic Ex to a (2000) civic Ex? maybe i should get 2000 civic Si. there's probably not 1 of those around without alot of miles and all beat up. maybe i should go UP-GRADE to an 05 civic Ex 7th gen. i dunno.

BTW, RSX Type-S insurance I heard is supposedly much more than the "base" RSX 5 speed.

yeah, i kinda figured that. hey, what do you guys think of scion tc's those cars offer alot for a low enough price.

i think that the Scion Tc is a very cool and good car for the price and what it offers. I might actually maybe get one of those. they're about as much as a new 7th gen. but they offer WAY more stuff and goodies than a civic. it's got 160 HP. and all sorts of other ****.

i dunno, maybe i'll end up with one of those. doesn't sound like a bad idea.

You will get a lot more for your money with a Scion tC IMHO. The aftermarket for this car is taking off like a freakin rocket.

yeah, they seem to be really good cars with alot of toys and features for an unbeatable price!. i can't believe how cheap they start at. i'm looking into it right now. maybe this might be my next and FINAL car. i sure hope they're built alot stronger than civics are. my civic just isn't making me happy. it's slow as hell. and it's bland. nothing going on, on it. and it draws too much attention to those stupidass "racer" wannabee's. i can't be stopped at a red light without someone with another well known car, tryng to rev up next to me and try to race me. i don't need that kinda attention. it's embarrasing. and like i said before. the 7th gen wasn't the car i REALLY was looking for. i wanted a 6th gen. or a prelude. but didn't come out a winner with that either. so i'ma get into the scion world and see what this car offers. ofcourse i can still come in here. there will be no point in doing that. i dunno. it's not like i'ma get a scion anytime soon. or at all for that matter! LOL!. i gotta see how things go first. my life right now sucks some what. and my easter sunday is ****ed!.

a new scion tc at the dealership costs 16,840 dollars. NEW!. thats not bad!. I'm thinking that they could give me good money for my car. i'll probably have 1000 dollars in negative equity towards the full payment on a new scion's balance. thats not too bad. i might have a good chance with a scion tc. all my bills are always being payed for on time. my civic i have now has never missed a payment. i've got my bills paid for in my apartment and all the ****. i was just in scion website and i was reading their credit stuff and looks like i might have a good shot at it!. i'd like a white scion tc. looks hot!.

Personally, PAY OFF your car, THEN look for a new one, because then you will GAIN by having a few thousand for a trade in!
yeah, either that, or when you trade in, work the trade in numbers up way up there, above the 9200 you owe, because you dont want negative equity.

thats like oweing 9200 dollars on your car and selling it to me for 8000. you will take the 8000 and pay that towards your loan, and still have to pay 1200 dollars out of pocket. you would want to get more than what you owe, so you can pay off the loan (9200), and have some more money in your pocket.

I just got a tc, here's the goods and the bads:

Good-

They have a lot of torque for the type of car, and short gearing so its reasonably quick.

My insurance went down 19 dollars per month.

I get about 26mpg in the city, compared to the 22mpg on the epa sticker.

The sunroof is sweet.

The motor seems to be pretty strong overall, people are making over 450whp on stock internals, at like 18 psi. i don't know too much about that stuff though.

Looks (subjective) are pretty good IMO, the back end is kinda weird however.

Theres some more good stuff, I can't remember right now.

BAD-

Right now, there are about 10 people that have 05s that are experiencing engine failure, something to do with the main bearings, and oiling issues. They think it might be bad oil pumps or something, and from what I understand, these are only 05s, and their VIN serials are very close, indicating perhaps a bad batch of parts.

When you get it, you might notice the hatch and (maybe) sunroof rattles. The hatch is an easy fix, just get some foam weatherstripping and put it on the striker things on the hatch, rattles gone. Sunroof rattles, that that to the dealer.

The interior plastics that are painted scratch easily.

The motor sounds weird during normal driving, only in the cabin of the car. At WOT it sounds pretty good.

Toyota is pretty ghetto about warranty work, if you need it, and if you have mods. That's why mine is staying stock, and why I have a project car to make quick/handle good.

I get about 26mpg in the city, compared to the 22mpg on the epa sticker.

The biggest scion forums (scionlife.com) is full of a bunch of ricers and noobs. They think that the tc is the BEST car ever made or something, kinda like how the srt4 guys were a while back.

Other than those few things, great car. You might get a lot of comments and questions about it.

P.S. What's good is Toyota is cramming these cars full of standard features, like the keyless entry with remote built into the key, the sunroof, power locks, auto up/down windows (driver and passenger), 17 inch wheels, cruise, other stuff. This is good if you get rid of it along the line, because a few people that bought their cars in 04 when they came out, are now trading them in and getting more than what they paid, some even up to $20 grand.

P.P.S. If you get it, don't get any options at the dealer, they can all be had for a lot cheaper online, from other toyota dealers. PM me if you have any questions, about the car, or any of the add-ons.

P.P.P.S. If you like the mazda3 5 door, those have pretty much identical performance to the tC, and they can be negotiated waaaay down on price too. They have had some reliability issues though.

thanks mandangalo. that pretty much helped me ALOT! . i wish i was able to afford 2 cars like you. but i already read about the rattling part. i'm just hoping that because the sunroof rattles. that it won't leak water when it rains being that i live in florida. but those "BAD" things aren't too bad. i'm not going to mod it, atleast no time soon after i'd get it. and as for the aftermarket peices that toyota offers. i'll pass. don't really care for that either. just stock will do fine. what concerns me will be the "engine" problems...hmmm? don't know about that one since it will be my daily driven car to work and back home. i don't race or drive crazy so maybe those "BAD" things you posted won't happen to me cause that prolly comes with the abuse a person can give a car. as for all these things you've said that are bad. well those cars you were tc's you were talking about were 04's...right? i'm looking to get an 06 bran-new!. so maybe they've worked out the kinks. atleast i hope so. toyota is a good japanese name and good brand of cars. besides. the car will be on a warranty. i don't have anything too much to worry then!. i haven't got the car yet. hell!, i haven't even went to scion's dealership!. i have to get my girlfriend's new car first. she wants a new 06 or 05 focus ZX3 (hatch). that after that, i'll look into getting my newer car too. she needs a newer car more than i do. i'm just being picky and stupid. but i want another car damnit!. i have faith in these SCION'S. i think the ONLY thing i wanna know is if they're really that bent on the "GOOD CREDIT" thing. hows your credit?.

i just like the way the white Tc looks. it's cooler than the other colors. this is hooked up but it's the best picture of a white Tc i could get. and it's also HOT!

Personally, I'd go with a Mazda 3 4 Door over a tC anyday.

I think the look is way better.. Higher interior quality too, and.. Cheaper.

Any car will run good as long as you take care of it.

what does everyone else think of scions?
I don't have my civic anymore, im just still on here a lot. (I assumed you meant me having my civic and a tc as well.)

The engine problems aren't really a big deal, so far there's 10 or so known people (out of i think close to 50,000 tcs sold), and they are all 05s, and all of them were manufactured on close to the same date. So they are guessing it was just a batch of bad parts.

I mean, look at ZPItuning, their tc's motor is pretty much stock internally, and they boost the **** out of it (15+psi), and their engine and transmission hasn't given them any problems, according to what they said.

Plus, the drivetrain warranty is 5 years/60k miles.

My credit is pretty good i would say, above 700.

Scion isn't really bent on you having good credit, in fact, they know that most younger buyers are still building credit, so they work with you to get you financed. you can read about it all at the scion website.

and when getting a loan, you must realize that a few percent higher interest rate is a BIG difference. say your total loan is $19k, for example, and you get an interest rate of 7 percent, thats about 1300 dollars per year you will pay in interest, meaning 100 dollars or so per month in interest. if you somehow get that down to 2 percent, you will pay less than 300 dollars a month in interest.

these are very rough estimates, but just realize that a few percent higher will make you pay a few thousand more in interest by the time the car is paid off. i got 2.24 percent on my scion through my credit union, and had 1.9% on my civic, both for 60 months.

the only thing i dont like about my car, besides the stuff i listed in my other post, is the actual word/name "scion". i think it sounds weird, kinda gay, but makes sense, because "scion" means descendant, and the company scion is, obviously, a descendant of toyota. im probably gonna get some toyota badges from a highlander and throw those on there instead of the scion badges. "tc" stands for touring coupe, btw.

just some pics, not my car

very cool stuff man, 3 questions. #1, are you having trouble with your paintjob? like chipping and easily being scratched?. #2, will they take in my 02 civic ex on trade? does scion do that?. and #3, my rate right now on my 02 civic ex is 7.50. i take it thats a bad thing?. i'm only paying 225 dollars a month on my civic on that rate. thats not too bad. i'm looking to pay (at the most) for a scion tc-330 dollars. i hope not that much but i think i can afford that. maybe they'll workout something with me?...I hope it won't be as bad as it sometimes seems like.

just some pics, not my car[/QUOTE]

1. my car has about 5k miles on it now, and i can tell you that toyota/scion paint is a lot better than the paint on the 7thgens. i know that a lot of people that drive scions complain about the paint, but its really not that bad. especially on white or silver, its less noticable. my parents have 3 toyotas, and their paint is holding up fine, except for the 85 truck, that thing has a maaco paint job.

2. of course they will take your car in as a trade. just make sure you get more than what you owe, at least.

3. im paying 269 a month for 60 months, and that's with only $1000 down, plus the equity from my trade. you can go up to 84 months on your loan, and your payments would be lower, but im not sure if you wanna be paying for that car for 6 or 7 years.
