Who said a civic can't drift?
LOL - I heard someone saying that Civics can't drift cause there FWD on this forum a while back, and I'm just here to let you know that they do drift, and drift well indeed. Go give it a try, but be safe.
<< what do you mean by drift >>
Road: Hairpin turn, Sharp turns,etc.
you put your car into a drift, that it when you keep you front end facing towards the inside of th turn, as your rear end swings around the outside of the turn...
For RWD cars.. you need to keep the R Tires spinning enough, so that you keep the car from spinning out too much and crashing or losing control.
I wanna find out how to do it correct with FWD.....
Believe me, i've seen some videos of Fumiaki Komatsu driving anbd drifting the Sil-Eighty...holy shiet, it's an amazing site.....
INITIAL D! BAYBEE!!!
This is a skill used a lot in japanese street/downhill racing....
yes they will drift any car can drift if u push it hard enough and pull the hand break but with FR cars u can do it with out pulling da hand break
thats the good thing and ur not hurting da car.
and FWD its harder to control the drift. so watch out.

had enough of "drifting"...
too many CLOSE CALLS...
and one racing accident...
besides its not really a drift either...
technically what they say about our cars not being able to drift is correct because what we do is really just a power slide...
different from a drift because we don't spin out all four tires...
we simply throw the rear end around...
sort of like fish tailing...

Drift
To cause a vehicle to exceed its tire’s limits of adhesion, exhibiting a lateral slip, resulting in an oversteered condition.
technically, FF cars can't drift. With an FR or AWD car, counter steering is administered when the car is in an oversteered condition. BAsically, the car is purposely oversteered, using counter steer to control the car in a corner (curve) making the car look like its sliding sideways along the track, with the front wheels pointing outward. When you slide with your e brakes, your tires are pointing in, therefore, you're not really drifting.
Civics don't drift, sliding using the e-brake is used instead. But, FF cars have an advantage over FR cars since they can perform high speed cornering using left foot breaking for the understeer we get on FF cars like civics, giving more control and higher cornering speed. Thats why the integra type r was a great car for autocross.
So its good to have a civic in some aspects, but we can't drift in em.

Actually, we cant even power slide. Its only an effect that occurs for FR cars where upshifting at the exit of a corner causes the rear tires to skid. Doesn't look too good anyways. E-brake sliding looks better, but you can't beat 4 wheel drift.

Well, I don't know the technical definition of drifting but I do know the civic is very tossable in my opinion. I can get the rear to slide out no problem and it is easy to control. I love this car, its like a big go-kart!
kinda had fun/almost pissed my pants playin with the ebrake.. i was just goin down a street goin about 30-35, and i just yank on the ebrak and let off the gas.. then i jerked the wheel.. n boy, glad i didnt fall into that deep ditch...
I find that the 01's are a little tossable, but I'd rather have better grip overall instead of the tires slipping... I'm willing to bet NOBODY on this site drives their Civic through hairpin corners with the rear tires sliding. People can talk all they want about pulling the e-brake in an empty parking lot, but what about pulling it while going 75 in a 180 freeway ramp? If you do, then PM me and we'll talk.
artychris: doing it at 75mph on a freeway is just plain stupid. However, I live in the backwoods of ohio with many a windy-curvy road. There's a small back road that connects two state routes, and another road that branches off to another state route. There's a pretty solid hairpin curve to get on the brach road. 75mph I have not achieved yet, but about 50-55mph is my current record.
I did it on a set of snow tires too! Man those babies were howling.
By the way: I don't care what you call it, drifting, rear-wheel slides, e-brake turning.. Don't try this on streets, do it in an empty parking lot first. Wait til you get the hang of it.
Set up some cones, learn what you are doing. And please people, try not to do it on your stock Fireston FR690's... it's much better on ANY other tire. Go to wal mart and get some 15" general all-seasons for $30 apiece at least, ANYTHING is BETTER THAN THOSE FIRESTONES.

are you talking about drift? or just simply slide?
drifting is done when you have control over the car
sliding is just simply dangerous and ignorant and have no control over the car
you can drift with FWD cars but you will need to keep pulling handbrakes all the time to keep your back wheels off traction..
but it wont look as good and feel as comfortable drifiting with FWD cars than with RWD cars

drifting is what you do when you are behind someone. just like semis do, you trrail up behind the other car and let them break the air resistence for you, then you will notice if you keep a constant speed and pressure on the gas, the car with pick up speed with you not working the car any harder than you were before.

THAT'S DRAFTING!
i did it on a freeway off ramp going eighty. I had just cut across three lanes, b/c I was about to miss my exit. I was about to end up jumping off the freeway exit ramp, into this field. I pulled the e-brake, and sent it into a slide most of the way up the ramp. It was scary shizznit. My rear tires are balder than your dad. I did it w/out the e-brake the other day in the local mall parking lot. The only misshap I have had was when it was raining, i was going through this neighborhood at about one or two in the morning. I turned left on to another street, and slightly pulled the e-brake. I looped out and slammed on the brakes, and spun a little more until I hit a curb going real sow at this point. I got a little grass stuck in the under spoiler, and a scratch that isnt noticable.
