does anyone autocross race?
whats up everyone. does anyone autocross their 2k1 civic. i've done it once and it was fun as hell. if so, what kind of suspension setups do you have. i have eibach sportlines, 17" inch rims, and bridgestone potenzas. let me know if anyone else likes to autocross vs. drag racing. i think imports were meant more for autocross type races rather than fullout drag racing. (leave that to the v8s). dont get me wrong i like a good street race every once in a while! later, my civic bros
red EX coupe
tsunami front end
red aem cai
17" alt rims
bridgestone potenza tires (very good tires)
red painted valve cover
eibach sportline springs

I would like to get my Civic autocross ready. I have Goldline springs (1.5" drop) and I am going to get some
Koni adjustable struts, and 17" wheels. And after that, I will get a rear tie bar, front strut bar, and rear sway
bar, and set the suspension up for oversteer turning....and then I'll be good to go for autocrossing, well as far as
suspension goes.....I may do Urethan Bushings, but am undecided.....

By the way, I agree....I leave drag racing to the big blocks and sh it...
I think our Civics would make excellent Autocross cars...especially when
a turbo comes out for it. No NOS, just a curvey *** track !!

I've done some testing on my car's suspension at my university's parking lot (when there's no one), and i did some slalom testing and skidpad and it felt pretty good...predictable at the limit...no surprises....a little tail happy...for an almost stock suspension.... and some mountain road testing which felt very gooodddd

by the way...I love autocross, rally,GT, DTM and circuit racing...straight line racing is no no for me....not as good as a good set of tight curves

Once again...I totally agree....the 1/4 mile is boring....where's the fun ??
I have pushed the limits in my car as well, and it handles very well.....
There are a few set of roads over here that I drive and do the "Brake in, Power out"
to see what my car can do and it makes me smile every time....

i do that all the time, when i can anyway. good chance to practice your heel-toe braking skills. there's a great road between my mom's and my dad's house, it's so much fun to drive on. anyway, i've never raced my baby, but i have raced my dad's car, check my ride pics for it. fun stuff, i had a blast, and now i'm addicted. as long as he's paying for it . . . I auto-x my civic, (ATL-SCCA Solo II), I recorded it also. After I upload it to my PC this weekend you'll all get to see it. One thing I must add though is that because of the slow accelleration I its hard to compete with the other cars. The track that I ran had times ranging from 58-82, and I got a 75 for my best lap.
Although all I have are front-upper / rear-upper / rear-lower strut bars. I am working on getting gc coil-overs and koni-shocks, but then they'll most likely put me in a class that I will never win anything in.

lol. go figure. need to boost that HP so that you can compete with them. hehe.
Guido is right, tire choice is a great part of making a good Auto Cross time. I autocrossed my Z34 a few times. I plan on getting my Civic in gear to do SCCA AutoX, but time and money make things difficult.
My biggest tip for all you aspiring autocrossers:
GO WATCH AN EVENT. The first time you go up, unless you feel you MUST compete the first time, just watch. That's all. You will learn so much from just sitting around and watching what these guys do to their tires, suspension, etc.
Also, if you ever get the opportunity to ride shotgun in a car while the driver is autocrossing, watch their feet, and how they shift, etc. Many things can be learned from a seasoned driver.
17" wheels are a no-no too. You will often see cars with 14-15" wheels with ZR tires on them. Running these will give you a lower gear ratio, with quicker acceleration, which is what you need in autocross because of the abundance of close turns and short periods of acceleration.
