Should I buy this car?
Should I buy this car?
I just moved and am in need of a car as soon as possible. I came across a 2002 honda civic coupe ex, but it has 92k miles. The guy had it listed for 9,000. But I talked him down to 8,000. How high can the mileage go on newer civics before they start having any problems. I also wouldn't be keeping the car that long, maybe a year. I want to get a new rsx, but don't have the money for that right now. Is the civic worth 8,000? Any advice or suggestions would be
appreciated. thanks.
appreciated. thanks.
if you are not going to keep the car that long than why not buy something cheaper. and 92k is a lot of miles but most likely most of those miles are highway. it should be fine and it will last a year for sure.
Kelly Blue Book gave the range from $7.5k to $9.3K depending on condition if theres 92k miles on the 02 ex coupe. You be the judge of the condition and use that to your advantage in bargining. In terms of durability, the engine should run fine for another 92k miles the engine was serviced properly. the transmission might be questionable. Some of the automatics are rough, or they kick or slip. also some of the manuals grind. Ask about the transmission service history too, the atf should have been changed out at least 2-3 times by 92k miles. So you should be aware of that. Besides the tranny, most of the issues related to the early 7thgen civics are assembly issues, like loose driver seat, or rattles. Hope this helps. sorry i cannot tell you if 8k is a good price as I do not know the details of the condition.

if you have a car right now, why not just use that instead of having to poke out 8K then spend a nother few thousand for an rsx. i would say no dont get it
Thats the thing, I don't have a car here. I need one as soon as possible. I had an 02 civic in hawaii, but couldn't afford to ship it here. But as long as it was taken care of, with 92k miles, it should be fine for a year or so right?

damn....put the 8 grand down on a new one
You need a job to finance a car, something I don't have right now. I've been here about a week. And, I need a car to look for a job. I want to get the civic for a year or so, and save up for the rsx. Then sell it, and buy the rsx.
I can't stand to drive older cars though. The last civic I bought, was a white 02'. I kept it for 8 months, and sold it, and made a grand off of it. If you buy an older car, theres a better chance you'll lose money on it when you go to resell it.
This is the car. I put a space between the first H and T, since I can't post links until my 15th post. just remove the space, and copy and paste it.

I ended up not getting the car. I looked at it today, and it was pretty nice. It was at a dealership, and the guy added on all these bullshit fees. And it came out to 9k total. Theres no way i'm paying 9k for a car that has 92k miles on it. I'm going to keep looking, hopefully I'll find something soon.
Yah, there's also a chance that Civic will get totalled, and you'll REALLY lose money on it. I wouldn't risk my 8 grand (I actually put 7,250 down on my Civic) and got really low payments. Why not put that 8 down on a RSX assuming that's what, a 3rd if not 3/8ths of the total cost of an RSX?

i bought my 01 civic ex with 93k miles on it for 9.3k, it had a system and rims already. I bought the car in september and already have 106,000 on it with no problems, however, i am due for a new timing belt which will cost me around 4-500.
