It's entertainment. Of course they've tricked up some parts of it. They were honest about the repairs, but they've staged the ways they were going to hurt the car.
Asking to see the car withstand multiple tons of falling material onto it is like slapping your cat onto a cruise missile, launch it and expect it to come back home before nightfall.

Rep Power: 243 yeah, I know it's a better show if the truck survives, but I'd enjoy seeing it unstrapped and still survive. Because it survived the sea after coming unstrapped

Rep Power: 320 Yeah and he hit the pole with the very corner of the car going about 15mph. Lame. The show would have ended right there and then if he hit the pole head on going about 45mph.
And the wrecking ball did a weak sauce roll over the hood and also hit the car in the back with the car in neutral to absorb all of the impact.

Rep Power: 279 Yeah, they added a bunch of drama to the show, but the toyota IS a tough cookie. Be aware though, it survived the water because it's a DIESEL. A gas engine may have been ok, but the ignition system would be another thing altogether. So they picked the truck well for what they wanted to do.
But still impressive, nonetheless.

Rep Power: 307 damn, that really makes me look at my old 85 pickup with the 22r in a different way. i knew they lasted forever, but that's just insane. i know a kid from high school that had an 83 diesel 2l-t in it with over 300k miles. my dad's friend tim still has his 86 4x4 with 370k on it, last time i saw him.
