Yeah, it explains VTEC man. Our's is basically the same as the 1.6 SOHC.

Thi sis of course all out of date. Look at the stuff from Temple of VTEC for more recent description of VTEC and the new i-VTEC.

And I still can't understand what the big deal. VTEC, SOHC, DOHC. Who cares. 127hp is 127hp no matter how you get it. The difference is only where that power occurs. For our 1.7EL, they made the power come earlier for better response, and the engine burner leaner below 2500rpm for better fuel economy.

Now whether one is easier to tune for more power than another... I couldn't care less. It's an ecomony compact. It's slow... but you already knew that when you test drove it before you bought it, right?

Looks like the VTEC engines in our cars not 3-stage VTECs, like some people thought in an earlier thread. I guess only the 1.5 L engines in Japan and Europe have 3-stage, and the V6 Accords here.
