I just bought a used 04 civic dx 20k miles. It's a very clean car. The only problem is that it only came with one key. I called the local honda dealer to get a couple of replacement keys, the woman told me it would be $ 80.00 a piece. Is it just me or is the price ridiculous. There is no way a key should cost that much to make and program. Is there anyone out there that make some replacement keys for a decent price?
cost me $34.xx for a new key. its not liek a regualr key where you can go to walmart to get made. ours have a chip inside them.
My mom was quoted $150 CAD to replace her Camery key
i would rather pay 80 bucks a key than have it be like 1995 when one in every 6 honda keys would start your car.
I am not sure which year they changed it over. But I know just about every car company up until the mid 90's really only had about 3-8 keys.
got mines for $40 from the dealer ask around different dealers in your town not evey dealer's price is the same.

in case it breaks when you are opening a box with it like my friend john did with his 240sx. man, that sucked, i had to drive him around for days, until he got one from nissan in the mail.Originally Posted by gearbox
why do you need more than one... I'm hoping that was $80 for a pair becuase 80 for one is just insane.
How about $250 for a key then? Just one key. That's how much the replacement key for our G35 is. Yikes.
Thanks everyone for the responses. I have called around here in my part of Texas and I am getting the same response, around 80 bucks a piece. I'm going to keep trying. If I lose my one key I am up a creek.
what if we call a honda dealer from out of state and have them mail it?? im in cali and wouldnt doubt they would ask the same price of $80 if not more.
