5k Mile Checkup

Ok, heres the deal. Right now my car has 2800 miles on it, and im taking a trip in February to Florida, roughly 1400 miles each way from NY. My car will probably hit 5k on the way down, then over 6, close to 7 on the way back. Im going to miss the 5k checkup and first oil change. Should I get this done before I leave, or when I get back? Should I also switch to synthetic right now or wait til 10k miles? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I think that the 1st oil change is pretty important so I wouldnt wait until almost 7k to change it. Why dont you get it changed while your in Flordia? Then you would be really close to the 5k mark and right on schedule.. It only takes like 30min for a oil change if you can find someone near you....

ya if you change it now its too early and the motor won't break in properly. too late and you cause damage. this is the only time it matters.

Is there anything the dealer would do different for the first change?

Nope. Just change it like any other dealer should at any other place. Whats different is how the engine will react to the oil.

Change it while you're in Florida and enjoy the trip there!

its not anything they need to do different. its that the break-in oil which is a special formula from the factory has to be in the engine for the first 3800 or so miles.

i get my oil changed about every 3000 mile mark, the maintence light that stays on and blinks a little after you start the car at like 5 or 10 thousand miles i just turned off by myself by looking in the owners manual and my engine runs great still, didnt feel like going to the dealer just to reset the light
