D isn't going to tell you. He wants it to be a secret because he doesn't want anyone to copy him. I think we should all respect his wishes. If you want to relocate the spare under the car, just assess the situation and figure it out for yourself. It shouldn't be too difficult...

Isn't this site about sharing knowledge about a similar car? D has an awesome site going, but to disclose information because you do not want others to follow is complete bull$hit. And the thing in the faq just seems like a complete cope-out...

but anyways, once i figure it out... i'll be sure to post a nice DIY so that others could use it...

Just get a peice of rope, tie one end to your car frame and the other
to the spare tire....toss the tire on the road and drive away...

HELL yeah..thats the right attitude...

i can figure out exactly how he did it....it is done like a truck i am sure, but i dont have the need for now....so i wont....but seriously....if you figure something out that is mad cool, and other people want to do it...why be a tight a$$ and not share the wealth?

like i said before....its just lame....cause someone is going to copy someone else at somepoint no matter what!

dude, it's like cleared headlights... people don't clear headlights because "derek has his cleared"... they do it because they like it that way and that is why there is a DIY for it...

I'm in no way trying to insult Derek... I give him mad props for everything he has done for us...he brought the whole 2001 civic community basically together... but i just don't understand why the information is so tight with him

exactly its not that hard. Just look underneath like an 85 Ranger, they have under mounted spares if you're that worried bout it.

Maybe he doesn't post because he doesn't want everyone else on the board to have the same unique thing done to their car. It's the same reason Turtle didn't go into detail on his trunk mod, to be different from the rest of you.

Besides, it's not that hard at all to do. All you have to do is look. At the bottom of your sparetire well there is a little circle. Just drill through that, put a big enough bolt through there, get a wing nut, and screw it on from the bottom.

holy crap, did you not understand anything I said? IT'S TO BE DIFFERENT FROM EVERYONE ELSE ON THE BOARD. If I do something really cool to my car (not that having your spare mounted under the car is really all that cool) and I wanted to be the only one to have it done, then there is no way I'd tell anyone how I did it.

dude, it is like the whole open source and closed source coding in computer programming.... open source leaves programmers the option to improve on an already existing program while giving credit to where it is due.... bleh it's no use... i no longer give two $hits...

Actually if all you guys really chose to read the FAQ, you'd REALLY respect why Derek chose not to share that info. It says:

G. How do I relocate the spare tire to be under the trunk?
The site owner is the only one that has done this so far. His installer has told him not to give out his secrets, so please do not e-mail him about it. If you can figure it out yourself, all the power to you.

Derek was NOT the master-mind on how to relocate the tire under the car, it was someone else's invention and request to keep it secret. Can't you understand?

You want Derek to respect your wishes by giving away someone else's secrets? That's total disrespect there - and VERY selfish. If you wanna find out, you guys better DIY for yourselves if you think it's so important... it's not like it's impossible to do it without him, sheesh...

And FAQ Yourself. like the owner says.

Hmmm good point....If the originator of this wicked lil DIY does not want to disclose the info then no one should force them...It will just be up to us to figure it out ourselves and the ruin it for him and post mad DIY on the Relocating Spare Tire....I don't think it's that hard...I personaly haven't even looked at how I't could be dont....HAVE YOU EVEN TRIED I can understand you flaming at nrrhgreg if you worked on this for like 8 hours and got nothing but a messed up tire mod and what not...but if you haven't even attempted to figure it out yourself shame on you....nor if you haven't done a massive search on how to do it and came up with no info shame on you again....for flaming nrrhgreg.....I have spent a total of like 2 hours searching and searching how to do the DIY Blue Guages....and when the lovely FAQ was put up that had 2 lovely links to the threads with the most amount of info on it...I shrugged it off..and well sit patiently awaiting summer or a temp that is above our reg -20 to 0 degree weather.....I have only taken my spare out once...and well have some what of a photographic memory of what the set up looks like....and well yes...Drill a hole thru the trunk and well put the bolt in upside down...compaired to how it is in now....and then just attatch the nut to the tire under the car....but just don't go off like that...and man listen to what these ppl say........And yes I want to take your side also....but think about it.....Windows Is not Open Source...it would be nuts if it was...but well it isn't sooo just well....leave it at that.....And with out the DIY...I would not have Cleared Headlights..and Blue Guages....ok....

And like I said, I think the statement in the FAQ is a cop-out to keep his ride being unique. Just my opinion.

As for Windows being Open Source... If it was, we'd have so many updates and patches to fix our Windows almost every day... instead of waiting every 6 months for an "Update"...

actually, updates for Windows come out quite frequently, but that is a little off topic. as far as the tire goes, I'm sure if you took it to a custom shop they could give you a little advice. don't hate the man because he doesn't give away all his secrets. think of something original yourself.

i'm with nrrhgreg, if i had a really unique mod, or something that was just cool to have, i wouldn't tell anybody unless it was life or death. not even friends of mine. it's more fun to have a secret, and to have people look at it and say, woah, that's cool, could you show me how to do that, and just look them in the eyes, laugh, and say no.

the thread is going nowhere, D clearly said he's not telling due to his installer wishes, so, if you can find out yourself, good for you
