Depressing day at the track...
I don't have my slips with me right off hand, but my best run was a 17.1. For that run i got a .569 light, a high 60ft (don't remember it exactly) and the entire time I had traction problems.
hopefully its nothing better than a auto sedan!!

Nope, 5 speed Ex Coupe. Here is my runs. also, no snow, its florida. I have about 250 lbs worth of audio in my trunk and will be taking it out for what will hopefully be a better run tomorrow.
Run#1
R/T - .990
60' - 3.071
330 - 8.151
1/8 - 12.047
1/4 - 18.156
MPH - 81.11
Run #2
R/T - .860
60' - 2.710
330 - 7.410
1/8 - 11.220
1/4 - 17.278
MPH - 81.67
Run #3
R/T - .542
60' - 2.751
330 - 7.394
1/8 - 11.155
1/4 - 17.148
MPH - 82.60
Car is totally stock with the exception of the audio and a DC Sports Short Shift Adaptor.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better run, and yes, I was having traction problems, I was giving it to much gas off the line and all the tires did was spin as is obvious from my 60'

Oh hell yeah. 250 pounds of audio will kill your 1/4 miles. If you take that out then you should get a 16.2 or maybe oven 15.8 if you're lucky. Somewhere in that range. Good luck next time. BTW, how much does it cost?

Weight is the key- take out the audio, spare tire (damn its heavy!) and run with 1/4 to 1/2 tank of gas. Good RT and launch are next..... you'll get it. You can find a half second easy somewhere........

Well, just took out the subs, the battery, going to get the tire in a minute (little tired from getting the subs out), and my car is at a half tank now, after going to class and getting to the track it should be at about an 1/8th. BTW, this really depends on the situation, but in general every 100lbs is good for about a tenth. It's 10 bucks to either watch or make runs, you got to pay that regardless. What does everyone launch at? I generally keep it at 3 grand, slip (not dump) the clutch, and go redline through 1 and 2, and early shift 3-4 because if i redline 3rd (which takes me acroos the line) the car doesn't feel like it is pulling anymore. Wish me luck, going on Friday.
Did you run at Desoto Friday? If you did so did I I ran 16.5 I ran 3 times that was my best run... I had to get used to the tree It turned green to fast.. I used to the tree running three Yellow lites then green. At desoto it just hit green my reaction time Sucked every time

Ill be there tomorrow night, running high a$$ times.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but would lowering your tire pressure allow you to have much better traction? Like maybe lower it to 20 psi or something. I thought I read somewhere here of somebody doing that to help his quater mile's....
DO NOT lower your tire pressure with radial tires, the will cup and give you less of a contact patch on the ground. It also gives more rolling resistance which will slow you down even more. Even though you are having traction problems its not as bad as the engine getting out of its power band. Our cars dont make dunk for torque so you need to keep your revs up. trust me if you dump the clutch at 4000 to 4500 rpm I guarantee you will drop 1 to 2 tenths off your 60ft times which can make up to a full second differerance at the end. I recently helped a friend swap a B16A into his 1990 CRX and he had the same problem, he thaught he was spinning to much but after some practice and my advice he was able to cut 4 tenths off his 60ft. It cut 1.1 seconds off his quarter mile times with no other changes. I have been bracket racing domestics for over 8 years and this is sound advice. Actually, dont change anything that way Ill still have the advantage incase we ever meet on the street!

Desoto? No I run up at Bithlo speedworld Park, on Highway 50.
A 4-4.5k clutch dump has always given me traction issues. My tires are at the factory setting (hrm...30PSI), and yeah I know about the whole don't drop the pressure on radials thing. My low ET is just more than likely Driver error. Im good at AutoX stuff, but when it comes to the straight line I suck.

wow guy....you need to work on those 60ft times, 2.7, yikes, those suck. and dropping the stereo will NOT get a stock 2k1 EX to run faster than 16.0 your still probobly looking at mid 16's stock..but..yeah..work on your 60 ft, and launching at 4k is probobly good. I used to launch at 3500-4000 in my 99 EX. just make sure you run it out till right before fuel cut..dont powershift, wont do any good, just shift real fast (i'm notorious for HARD shifts into 2nd gear) go to the track, leave the stereo at home, and loose your spare and jack at the track...if you want to go faster at the track only, ditch your front seat, as it should only take a few minutes to unbolt...
Good luck next time!

oh, and BTW, dont slip the clutch, just dump it, your better to come out of the hole hard spinning than chirp a little and risk bogging a tad, remember, your driving a torqueless honda, you HAVE to keep the R's up if you want to go fast...i would almost guarantee that spinning thru1st with a good launch is better than slipping the clutch. If you have a car with a serious traction issue, then yeah, slip the clutch to aviod a smoke show..but i dont think a stock civic is like that...

Nah, stock Civic's aren't a smoke show at all. And I know that the Civic won't break 16s, I just want to get into the 16s!!! I want to see what the stock Civic (mine) does before I put in any mods, and I have been several times to the track, but just haven't learned the car yet. It's alot different than making a pass in my dad's greenwood corvette

like everyone says, work on ur 60.
if slipping clutch at 3k doesnt do any good, then try the dump or slip at 4k. if you ask me, those stock firestone tires can't get traction if your life depends on it... but yeah... problem with dumping it is obviously the traction, but once it does stick, you'll be on your way.
reaction time doesn't factor into the quarter mile time. sure its nice to have a good reaction time, but the timer for the run doesn't start until your car pass the line. anyway if I remember right, get going at the SECOND yellow. not the third.
I dont think our car can go below 16s stock.. even with a crazy driver. low 16 is definitely possible.. but below 16 stock? I duno.

I ran mine with the stuff noted below, with 18's and 150 LBs of stereo, full tank of gas,and got a 16.1 at 85 spinning so badly my check engine light came on. Deffinatley spin is in on a civic. When I got better traction from dropping it at lower RPM I got a 16.3. Also keep it in 3rd, you will make it just fine.

Well, last night wasn't that any better. I am hoping that my high times are due to driver incompetence, and not that I got a "bad apple," although i feel I did pretty good driving last night. The only reason I am upset about my runs is that many people running stock EX 5speeds are in the mid 16s, and I can't even get into them. God, I hope this is just user error. Well, here is my slip ( I made 2 passes, but lost the last one, it was at 17.048 is all I remember)
R/T - .655
60' - 2.590
330 - 7.189
1/8 - 10.952
MPH - 64.8
1000 - 14.228
1/4 - 17.000
MPH - 80.30
Had spinnage through 1st, but wasn't at as bad as before. Chirped them in 2nd, and used 3rd the rest of the way. Only had 1.5 gallons of 87 gas and the only mod I have is a short shift adapter. Oh, and my tires are getting close to bald, because I'm too damn lazy to rotate them

Focuskiller, mine are ICW 077Ms, lighter rims have a very good effect on lowering ETs because it decreases the rotational mass. Rims are where the weight is most important to lose because the more that has to turn, the slower its going to be. Which is the reason why most people with 17 or 18" wheels end up having worse ETs after they are done. You also want more sidewall for drag, 195/60 will get more flex then say 215/35/18.

Nah, I just go on Wednesday and Friday nights for Test & Tune. I have never seen that bus moved the enitre time I have been going to the track, it's just a landmark of sorts. Pretty damn funny with that huge **** wing on it tho.

Well I guess i really suck at this. I have a 2001 LX coupe w/AEM CAI(only mod). Last month I was able to run a 16.92 w/85lbs. of stereo in my trunk. Just for sh*ts and giggles I took out the speakers and the back seat last night, then I ran the car 3 times and got 17.52, 17.34, & 17.10. My R/T must have been horrible, but I'm just really dissapointed.
