Redesign 2003 and On...???

Hey 2k1 civic drivers...

I just thought of something and wanted to hear your opinions...

... what I was thinking of was... if Honda should redesign their 2003 and on Civics or keep it the way it is... and if it needed to be changed, how should it be changed? body style? engine? or all?

The 6th Gen civics lasted about what,... 2 years (99-00) before they redesigned it to what it is now 7G Civic (01-02),... and since 2003 models are expected to hit the market soon, in July-Aug, I'm curious as to what honda is going to debut for their 2003 lineup... so lets hear you all out on what you think...

-----
My opinion is that... I think that honda SHOULD and I recommend redesigning the new Civic for the '03 and on... but with more style... Civic's been a tradition with their nice figure and look, but ever since 2k1-2 came out the... car has been morphed into what I like to call... and "bubble" (tall, small in width and length)... I seriously believe that they should try to focus on the appearance with not so much of a high top but rather a wide-somewhat long civic... with an aggressive look (Skyline, I like the look)... well that's what I think should be done...

... but I like my 2k1 civic,.. it's working out for me alright as a HIGH SCHOOL car...

they won't redesign it until like 2005 I think. I don't know where you got your 6th gen numbers from, but I believe the 6th gen started in 96 or 97. most generations last like 5 years. peace.

Yeah, the 6th gen was from 96-00. There was the first release from 96-98. Then the second release 99-00 with slight modifications to front and interior along with different taillights... plus more...

If they had to completely redesign it every couple years, it would be too expensive to buy...

Yeah the last civics were from 96-00. They are a little taller than the previous civics, but i don't think they have that bubble feel. I am 6'1" and I still sometime hit my head on the roof. Now Echos and Prius' are bubble shaped. Redesigns take at least 4-5 years to perfect.

my friend has a 98 lx sedan and my 2001 coupe ex feels more comfortable, and if your over 5'10" you can appriciate the taller cabin. head room is a beautiful thing.

The next redesign will probably be around 2004 to 2005. Anyway I doubt they would make the engine much more powerful. Honda has a proven formula with the Civic and like it or not many people buy the car and keep it just as it is. The Si is for modifying (though the way it looks....) and the rest of the Civics are simply for the masses.

Yah...only difference between 96-98 civics is the headlights are a bit different, the tail lights are yellow and red instead of white and red like the 99-00 and some minor differences in the interior. I dont think it would be wise to redesign this car so often. So the next model will most likely be 2004 / 5

The only thing I foresee honda doing to the 7th gen civics until redesign time is probably changing the engine, exterior color, and interior color line-up.

Mainly honda should consider making the SOHC D17 motor that is in our cars a bit more peppy, or perhaps for an increased price, making a High-End Coupe with the Base model RSX 5speed 160hp K20.

the civ's engine will prolyl remain unchanged or go even sulev, the body will prolly end up staying around the same size... and the suspension might go cheaper to compensate, they might wanna lower the price a tad to combat the korean car dealers

good point about those Korean dealers like Kia and Hyundai. Honda might have to drop prices to compete with those punks although everyone knows that Honda means quality. wait until all those Korean dealers have to do warranty work on all those cars with the 7 year warranty. hehe.

I was just about to post a thread about the 6th gen Civics on those tails! I love the red and white ones. I think I want a 6th gen Civic coupe.

I don't think the Civic would be that popular if it looked aggressive... I mean, it would attract the youth who're into imports, but the Civic's appearance attracts a variety of people, and that's just one reason why it looks the way it does. I'd expect a redesign for 2004. Otherwise, that's why we get body kits... but if you wanted something not as tall as the Civic, why not just go for something sportier? (a la Prelude)

Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised if the 2003 Civic came with stock cleared headlights as the new 2003 Hybrid Civic gets them.

I just bought by k2 civic ex sedan last week. I hope they don't change it anytime soon because that hurts the value of the older model. Personally, I would like to see a return to the suspension of the 00's and below. Other than that, I like my car just the way it is. Well....if they could shove the v6 from the accord in there...

They aren't gonna put the double wishbone back.. that would involve totally redisgning the front end. the reason they put in Macpherson strut in the first place was so they could make the nose sooo short.

Honda usually only changes the style every 4 years. If they have something that is a big seller in a certain body style(Integra) they will slightly change it and keep the body style. So no changes in body would come out until at least 05.

They did that to make the interior room and trunk bigger without making the car too much bigger. It just doens't handle anything like or as good as the previous models.

The handling has nothing to do with the struts. Just ask anyone who driven both the old Type R and the new one. And BMW and Porche.
You'd think that after all this time people would stop complaining about the double-wishbone. The worst part about the 7thgen Civic is the bouncy rear wishbone. They just have to give us better tuned suspension, not a completely new one.

And you're forgetting the whole reason why they went with struts: more interior space and 5 star crash rating. If Honda stuck with the same old design people would just have other things to complain about. You can never win.
