Civic Mileage and ECU

I know this topic has been covered but I'll just share my experience. I have a 2002 Civic DX. I did a cluster swap with an LX cluster. My mileage changed by about 40,000 KM (lower). I still have the Honda Care extended warranty (to 160,000 KM) so I called my dealership about the effect of the swap on my warranty. They said that it DOES NOT void my warranty, which was good, and I assumed that they could get the correct mileage out of the ECU. Then I was told that they COULD NOT retrieve the mileage and would determine my approximate mileage from my service records. Honda Canada confirmed that the mileage is not stored in the ECU. The concensus here seems to be that it is....maybe the Canadian Civics are different, but both the dealer and Honda Canada had the same answer. Good news for me that my warranty wasn't affected.

the mileage IS NOT STORED IN THE ECU. this is a common misconception with the 7th generation civic. the only way, that i know, of retrieving your original mileage is to ask a speedometer shop to reflash the mileage on the cluster itself. i don't have the money or time to look for one around my area, so i just keep a sheet of paper telling me what my mileage was before the swap (original gauges) and the new mileage (new gauges). simple algebra tells me my true mileage.
