Explain how to trade in
ok here's the deal. My 2k1 has given me some crap and it only has 13,000 miles. I'm gettin the warranty work done tomorrow, and if it
comes back worse or new problems turn up again, i wanna make a trade for an '02, since my dad bought the car for me and i'm moving for
college. He's kinda mad that the build quality blows compared to his '91 accord. How do i go about doing that?.....can i make a somewhat
even trade, and if not, what do i owe the dealer?....i'm not sure about
this process and i'd like to find out how much money he'd lose.....if it helps, we paid $16,200 for the 2k1 including the mats and roof visor,
and 7.2% APR.

Basically here is how it works. Take the car in and the dealer screws you very hard!!!! Whatever you owe on the car(assuming that you are still paying it off), minus the trade in value= negative equity. That neg. equity is then applied to the new loan and now you owe what they wouldn't give you plus the amount of the new car. Try selling it yourself for a good price. Cars lose their value quickly. Good thing about HOnda is that they hold it better the american cars. Good Luck though. The used car market is very low right now due to manufactures giving the 0% 0 payment. Hold on to it for a couple of more years, at least 1 till the economy picks back up.
hey...
well I think I can help you,... since I've gone through 4 cars in 2 consecutive years...
To get a start... I recommend finding the sedimental value of your vehicle @ www.kbb.com and see the trade-in value. When you take it to the dealers if their quote is about same or higher... then you're off on a good start... but if it's lower, then negotiate with them or talk them out.
Lets say that your car's value was $15,000 and the new that you wanted was... $18,000. What all the dealer calculates is the difference for taxes and interest... so in summarizing... here's the figure
$15,000 (car value)
$18,000 (new car value)
-3,000 difference...
$3,000 x TAX + Interest rate (avg.. 7.9% for civics) = Difference Value
Difference Value + $15,000 = NEW BALANCE
Hope this helps...~

i recommend sellinig your car privately. my toy 4x4 trade in value was 9k adn i sold it for 11 and my 90 grand am gt was trade in at 400 and i sold it for 2500
Trade in from kbb.com(kelley blue book) for out here is 12,695. Subtract that from what you owe and that will be what is added to the new loan. This will not be totally accurate because the dealer may give you more or less for the trade.
Yes that is the best time. End of the month and on a weekend. Dealers try to push their inventory as low as possible. Less inv. they have to pay on. We lucked out when we bought ours back in March 01'. Dealer actually came out 2k lower then sticker.
Yes,... very best to go when the dealer is about the close...
I negotiated for 1 full hour with them to get the price lowered... and it worked, cuz they were tired and wanting to leave, but they still were very friendly. Here in ID (Idaho) they have the friendliest salesmen at honda dealer....
my car was MSRP @ $18,090.00 and I walked out with it for $14,000.00 ... this is what I got...
2K1 Civic LX Sedan Auto w/dual side airbags...
I thoght I got a good deal on it... and it's only been a year, I only have like $10,000 left to pay on it... $4,000 difference in 1 year... pretty amazing...
well good luck with your trade-in...
Put simply, your car is NOT worth what you owe on it, even if you traded it back the next day it wouldn't be. You'll have to carry the "negative equity" (which is an oxi-moron, because equity can't be negative) on to the new vehicle. The dealer isn't going to try to SCREW you. It's the simple fact that you owe more than what's it worth that will be your battle. If the difference is too much you'll have to put money down because banks will only finance 130% of MSRP at a MAXIMUM. If you're credit isn't that good they'll only do 110-115%. That's the bank, not the dealer. The interest rate you get will be dependant on your credit also. If you're not a tier 1 or 2 with your credit, good luck demanding a rate of 7%. You'll be better off to finance through your bank or credit union. However, most credit unions will NOT finance anything else besides MSRP +tax, tag and title. There are so many in's and out's to trading a car that I could go on forever. If you need help, E-mail me I work for a Toyota dealer in new and used car sales and leasing. I understand the process fully and can tell you how the milk got in the coconut when you're ready to trade.

One thing to think about is the interest rate. I just bought a k2 civic sedan ex manual last week. It doesn't have side airbags and I paid 15, 986 out the door with mats and mud guards. Here's the kicker, I got 2.9% financing for 36 months. You have to have immaculate credit to get that rate. That will help some in your quest to trade. You need to find the trade-in value for your car off the kelly site like stated above and the invoice for the k2 civic you want. However, you are probably upside down on the car if it is only a year old, unless you put down a substantial amount. Exactly what kind of problems are you having? I have heard that honda's quality has gone down in the new civics.
I have a question...I've been looking at a 95 Del Sol VTEC at a local dealer and they are asking $8900 for it. Can someone tell me how I would trade in my civic, (trade in value =$12,420) for a car that is less money? I'm not good with this stuff..Somebody please help!!! I'm really liking this del sol!
