127 to 115 is pretty close. Your 7 more ft lbs of torque (at least thats what it is on the 7th gen EX) won't make much difference - id put my money on the EX personally...specially since there VTEC isnt totally dedicated to Economy.

I think that the 7G Civic LX against the 6G Civic EX is unspeakable... ONLY becauses there's a big difference in the engine. You have to remember...

2001 Civic DX & LX are SOHC... while the 6G EX is a DOHC... which makes a ~little~ difference, but with an intake and exhaust... there could be some similarities as well. Just remember that two engines are totally diff...

I personally like both generations, but I currently own a 7G Civic LX Sedan... and it's working great! Unfortunately,... I'm giving up the 7G Civic by this summer and will move onto higher end aftermarket vehicle... (next car Acura RSX Type-S)

there is no such thing as a DOHC EX. Every and all honda civic EXs are SOHCs unless its an aftermarket swap.

Yep... EX is SOHC and 6th gen had 125hp. I had a 1995 EX (5th gen) and I think my 2001 EX is faster and handles better, but not by much.

6gen EX, 125hp@6600rpm, 107torque@5500rpm, 2513ibs
7gen LX, 115hp@6100rpm, 110torque@4500rpm, 2465ibs

it is going to be close, but i heard the 6gen engine response to mod better than the 7gen plus it had more hp to begin with.

I've already raced one last week. I have a stock 2k1 lx with 17' Konig Tantrums. The 6thgen ex had stock wheels and intake and exhaust. I had him from the line, but once we both hit third gear, he started walking me pretty slowly. If you both have the same mods, it will either be an even race, if the both of you are good drivers, or the 6th gen will slightly pull on you just because they respond to mods better, but go for it.

there's no hurt in trying. I wouldn't bet money on this race though. should be fun though. close races get the adrenaline flowing really nice.
