well poop, you did not say an svt focus, those things are rated at 170 hp at 7200 rpm plus you can pick one up for $18000. However, it IS Ford and unfourtunetly I will be seeing a lot around here

as far as raw power it's hard to beat a domestic.... of course in 10 years and the car has been repaired a dozen times, that's when we win
honda's are reliable, plus they have performance potential

The GTi isn´t as fast as many people see it, last week i beat a 2001 golf gti with intake, exhaust and a racing chip, the guy couldn´t believe it, after all my car is stock. I haven´t had the chance to race against a focus
One thing to keep in mind is that the final outcome of these tests is a weighted rating over several aspects of the vehicles. The Focus MURDERED the Si and GTI on the skid pad at .91Gs vs. the Si's .84 and the GTI's .86, turned in the fastest lap time on the road coarse, has significantly more interior volume over the Si, a six-speed tranny, better braking and better weight distribution.
If you want to blame someone, blame Honda for being stupid enough to send the Si with f*cking 195/60 15s vs. the 215/45 17s on the Focus and 225/45 17s on the GTI. 15" wheels? WTF were they thinking?

Before two or so years ago you could get a GTI with a 115hp four bagner that was their base engine in most of their cars (i.e. beetle), so this is prolly what he beat, which wouldn't be too much of a surprise... Peace

<< I can see loosing to the VW, but a Ford? OMG what are those people smoking?!?!?! Someone shoot me! >>
Im saddened by the mypoic narrow minded fools that have agreed with this statement. Not only had ford been making quality racing cars and engines since your grandparents were in diapers, but the fact is that they have made a competent sport compact car thats more then qualified to compete in todays market. I know for a fact the the only reason your putting that car down is because it bears the name "focus", but remember you drive a civic. Dont be the guy who hates on cars just because of who made them or what they are called, inspite of obvious technical merrits and performance numbers that are far superior to what you drive.
<< ummm, you didn't beat a GTi.... 180hp or something for the turbo. and isn't it over 200 with the VR6 now.... >>
umm, there´s a difference between a GTi, a GTi turbo, and a much more powerful VR6. in a stock civic there isn´t a chance of beating a GTI turbo, much less a VR6. If you ever race a jetta that jumps off the line, and continues accelerating really fast, it is a VR6 heheheh

Well, allow me to retort...
Not only do I know 4 people who own Foci, 3 of them SVT's, but I know people who drive GTi's and Civics. Now, As far as build quality, my friends SVT has been in the shop 5 times in the last 6 months. Only one time was it a repeat. He already has a new tranny and alternator, and the car only has 14k miles on it. I have no clue how they build those things, but Elmer's glue comes to mind when I think of the interior. My other friends glove box fell off. The door that is. Now that's pretty crappy if you ask me. As far as the GTi's and the Civics, not one of them has had to visit the dealer yet. All of the Foci drivers have for one reason or another. You couldn't pay me to drive an american built car. Trucks are a different story altogether. When I went to pickup my friend at the Ford dealership after the third time the shop people told him, "Hey man, why don't you get smart like your friend and buy an Honda?" According to them the F150 and the Focus are the cars they see the most. So, if you are thinking of buying a "Focus" don't be distracted by the name, just by the quality of the product.
Thanx for listening.
