You got me HAHAHAHAH....look at this ****...........http://mfr2004.rs-scooby.com/gallery.../mfr04IMG_7456
Downforce is generated not only by wings, but also by the shape of the car itself. That also applies to the underbody contours. Maybe part of the reason for the uber gigantic wing is that it serves to generate more downforce at lower speeds?
Plus, corvette's meant for sheer performance, whereas WRX has its genes in rally racing. They're two different beasts. When's the last time you've seen a C7 in WRC?

Is it me but don't wings become effective until high speeds? Most rally racing is done under 100(??right). I am not a fan of the 747 wing either but it still is a bad azz car non the less.
05 STI was the best looking year yet period (was not a fan of the first gen bug eyes or the latest gen either). I'm thinking about buying a used one in the spring. Also, Vetts dont need wings due to their overall body shape and design. Downforce is built into the Vetts shape, the WRX/STI/EVO however do not have a good shape for downforce.. thats why the wing is needed.. even in daily driveing or in rain, snow, ect.

maybe we'll see more evos on the road since subie decided to go the butt ugly car that nobody wants route with their design...
seriously though, ive wanted an STi ever since i learned to drive stick, i always thought it would be the coolest and most fun to drive car (minus the wing of course...) but now they just look like suzukis...

How can they design the Legacy and this Impreza and not wonder if there is a problem somewhere.

It's the only car that I wouldn't think twice of buying it white... and the only car I like in white. Not even Civics! No other year either... Just look at this beauty!!!

i cant see them bumping it up to a 3.0L when it has been a 2.4L for every other generation along with the evo. they are both rally cars and if they intend to keep their roots in the rally car, they would keep the 2.4L engine

I don't get why people are bitching about it being ugly. When has the impreza looked good? the first gens looked like corollas, the bug eyes well looked like bugs or frogs, and it didn't get much better from there.
In the first pic, the 2002 ImprezaWRC lands on it's nose after a jump. The wing provides some downforce but not good enough to counteract the projectile path of the car.
The second pic shows a 2004 ImprezaWRC more leveled on a jump thanks to improved downforce created by the rear wing. The vertical fins on the WRC wings help control the car on high speed cornering, when they're usually going sideways.
The Wings on WRC cars are there on a functional purpose the same way they are on an F1 car, while the ones on production cars are more cosmetic, some of them actually provide some function.
BTW, I like the way the 2006 Impreza looks.

^Sweet!
Yeah, I still like the 05 much better. Guess it all depends when you actually see it in person and maybe with a bodykit on it too. Cause you know there will be multiple Manufacturers fabricating some.

who wants an sti that gets beat by an evo anyway. Car and driver or one of those car mags had a shootout of the sti and evo9mr and the evo beat it in the1/4 mile o-60 pretty much evrything except the front rear weight distrubtuion.

The STi looks like an Ion merged with an Elantra and took the current STi's fasia. Ewww...
I like that Evo though. It looks aggressive and taut. If they offer paddle shifters that are based on a manual instead of an auto, that would be great...

Actually, according to the article (I read the tiny Japanese fonts), that might not be how the Impreza looks. That composite seems to be based off of a Japanese racing video game called WRC3, which shows screens in the second page. According to the designer of the car, who designed the concept in-game, that's "not the actual Impreza."

I rather have an evo, I saw a snow race today of evo, skyline, and wrx sti and the evo ate both of them like scrubs. I thought the sti wouuld at least keep up but that evo smoked both em the whole race. I don't know why you would compare the new gtr to these cars due to the fact that the new infiniti gtr will be an 8cylinder twin turbo(450hp) compared to the 300 of the sti and 285 of evo.
