Scion TC, Mazda 3, or '06 Civic Si?
i'm almost sure i'm selling my car and i wanted to see what people here think of my 3 options. please don't be too biased for the civic si just b/c this is a civic forum. besides, i have yet to see one in person myself. i'll be going to dealerships this week to test drive/analyze the tc and mazda 3. this would be my preliminary research. there's a lot of posts about the t and the 3 - too much to read all. please just comment based on actual experience. thanks!
Depends on what you want in a car and what plans, if any, you have for it (or how much do you want to put into it to make it faster?)
TC is a nice car and I don't have too many complaints about it after checking it out.
SI is nice but it'll be every Honda boy's dream when it comes out.
Mazda 3 is the weakest in terms of power but can be equipped with leather, HIDs, and it has 4 doors.
Luxury? Mazda 3
Power? SI
Somewhere in between? TC

make it the mazda 6 instead of the 3, ive driven a 6, tc, and new civic ex, it's all small things that make the choice, it's tough to say they are all good cars, all very nice, i think you'll be happy with any of them, the thing about the si is it's brand new, you'll be one of the first, good luck, you'll be happy either way

Your response deserves a standing ovation period friend
Ive owned a new mazda once in my life and all i can say is that they are garbage ...Vroom Vroom my fvucking *** , mazda arranges their cars in a way that when something minor goes wrong off to the garage you go.
They suck *** as for quality and materials..
Look at how much they resale for... (Nothing) look at the mazda protege 5. Everyone was going bonkers when they came out now everyone is selling them afeter 3 years..
Civic Si period thats it thats all, people will gawk, resale value will stay and youll have a reliable fast car...
Your question is a no brainer because the scion imo is ugly !!!!!

If you are really wanting the 3 you should at least wait for a Mazdaspeed version. I remember reading somewhere that it is on their schedule but it is probably a little ways off. Just my $.02.

Mazda 3 is the ugliest IMO out of the 3....but you can get HID's and Leather...the hatch looks decent, but the sedan looks like straight ***...they are supposed to be more reliable then the Mazda 6 though...Si is fairly new and might have bugs...the TC is in the middle when it comes to looks to me...but they should be just as reliable...and I've heard the engines are very responsive to mods...
SI all the way! 197hp, LSD, 6 speed, 17" wheels w/michelin tires, side and side curtain air bags, power everything, sport suspension and exhaust, halo headlights, etc. the other two are so BLAH and will have a very boring ride.
I used to have an 03 ex coupe... traded it on for my 05 mazda 3 hatch...
It was a world of difference from the vic... The fit and finish was very nice...
No rattles, or ugly gaps... atleast the area around the sunroof has a finish peice around the roof liner. The 06's top end has heated seats, bose system (which most could care less) 6disc MP3 player, auto climate control, a D.I.C.
The power isnt so bad.. then again i have a auto compared to a stick... 5 spd manatic or manual. rides nice, takes turns tight for a stock ride...some things i are eh about the car is the carpet...hondas used a nicer material...
my 05 was 18K for side curtian, side impact, tpms, 6disc with sunroof, HID, leather. (Navi is the only thing i didnt get.. but i wish i did)
If you looking for something with more then 2 doors... take it for a test drive.. you might be surprised...
to each their own...
drive em... do some research and make sure you get what you want..

I would choose a mazda 6 over a mazda3. But my top 2 are like most, the Tc and the Si. Si might have some bugs but I'm sure i'd be a blast to drive with all the turning heads. Tc isn't bad either, they can come with a lot of factory options(exhaust, shifter, wheels, etc.)
I would test drive the Si and the Tc and see which one fits you better because its different for everyone.

Si all the way. Better resale value, better quality, and better overall. If you do get a Si wait for the second year run so they can get all the "kinks" out.
Looks: They look weird now but just think when the 01's came out... we thought the same thing.
Power: The Si will have more potential with aftermarket parts than the 7th gen and maybe the 6th gen.
Quality: It’s a Honda.
Resale Value: It’s a Honda.

ill add my voice..
i shopped around for well over a year, taking both the new SI and new 3 into deep consideration...
The Si is Great, not much to say about it, But i think the TC is way nicer, with my Supercharger, it is faster then The SI,
and a stock TC is not much different from the SI in some of the 1/4 times,
The si ofcourse has better gearing, But the Tc is more aggresive in gearing, And lack of a 6th Gear kinda sucks
The front end of the SI is ugly to me, and i dont think i will get use to it..
Besides little things here n there. The TC was the car for me, After everything i wanted it i got it for about 23k including tax. i also had AUDI Hid's installed, and i really love the car..
will love it more when my SC is in this march..
The mazda 3... Flunked in every possible way, minus the hid's and the cool GPA system...

To the kid who said "Scion Ugly"
Tc is hotness IMO
Alost note: only pic of my car is the AUDI hid pic, The rest are other's from scionlife.com
there just 2 of my fav, Sadly i have no pics of my car, im Waiting till the spring, once i have my new shoes on..
The first pic is F U X ING HOT!! the next two, are Stock rim's and TRD Drop,
unsure what drop the first car has, looks like Tein's
The TC is no XB, or XA, its its own beast..

mazda 3...I don't know much about that car, but I know one thing for sure that it is ugly
Btw Civic Si and TC
both are nice cars, my friend just bought a 06 TC for 16,700 (m/t) It is really a nice car for the price you pay, comes with 4disc breaks, 17' wheels, 160hp 2.3(?) engine, nice sunroof, also, inside is very roomy.
But the new si? how much does it cost? 22k~23k? almost 5k more....so think about it

thanks for all the respose. you guys really covered what i was thinking. mazda 3 is the only 4dr and i thought people really liked it around here when it first came out (even compared to an rsx), but bottom line is it still a mazda. Tc i really like especially the panoramic sunroof (i just do, i don't know). plus it's a toyota and it's made to be customized. i had lowering springs and new struts for my vic and i really didn't like the ride so i'm guessing trd parts would feel like stock and have the custom look. finally the si, which is the best si ever. i do think it looks a little weird in some of the pics. i don't like the 06 ex but hopefully the si would look better. i'll have to see it first.

This is I think what separates us from the toyota. I had a couple of toyota tc, xb, xa... stair me down all the time. And I just look at them and laugh because they get all of their parts from the dealer ship. What is the fun in that? Do some real customizing and be different. I don't know if I am the only one that thinks this or what? It’s like customizing a car and paying someone else to do all the work. Just my $0.02
Sorry didn't mean to thread jack but good luck with your choice. Hope everything works out well.

well there are plenty of aftermarket parts outside of just the dealership parts for the tc, xa, and xb.
As for the new si, a lip kit will fix any of the exterior that you dont like.
The TC may be the way to go, theres enough parts out there to satisfy what you want to do. www.hopupracing.com is where i went to get my exhaust and intake, and they've got some nice stuff for the Tc.
Just do what you want.... as long as the mazda 3 is not included lol. Its worthless, for anything. My friend has one and its the biggest POS out there. The mazda 6 however is tight, but only with the v6. Another friend of mine has the i4 and its sweet, but the thought of it with a v6 just makes the 4 look and feel shitty.
my ranking - Tc, Si, 6, every other car in this price range, 3
I say the Tc above the Si because of price, but if I wasnt paying for it, the Si would be on top.
theres my 2 cents, hope everything goes good for ya, let us know asap

The Tc is a nice car. my buddy has one and after we get done with his turbo setup and full kamari kit it will be one of the nicest cars around. i also have another freind who has the mazda 3. i think its a nice car. interior wise its beautiful. and i have no clue about the new Si. but i guess you could go drive a type-s and its about the same thing minus the LSD

Wow, you guys are pretty harsh on the 3.
Compared to my EL, the 3 has heated back/bottom, where my EL only has an *** heater. It looks good and also rides better than my EL, more power too.
But I chose the EL because of resale, reliability and the name, Acura.
The 3 is more the family car.
TC/SI are gonna be more ur "racer" car.
I would personally go for the new SI, but wait until all the querks have been worked out.
So ask urself what you want, fun driving or family driving.
I wish they offered the TC here..

I understand that it is a market deal and yeah it worked really good... Toyota sales when sky high for awhile. But like you said these people that I have encountered think that they are really "tuning" their cars.
I guess that is what I am trying to say. I am not “dissing” Toyota cars because I never owned one. What I call customizing is some thing that has to be special ordered or specially done to the car to fit. Not just going down the street and picking it up and just "snapping" it on.
Example:
Some guy: "Man my ride is more tricked out than yours. I got all da parts that I cud get at the dealership. It highly tuned"
texascivic2k1:
Some guy: "Word to your mother... dog"
texascivic2k1: "Yeah I could do the same thing as you and go down the street and pick up all those parts and have the exact same thing as you do the next day. Try doing that with my civic and see if you can get all the same parts I have on my Civic the next day? (I am not saying that my car is special).
texascivic2k1: "Also those leds make you well tuned too"
Some guy: “Really"
texascivic2k1: "No...Word to you mother."
(Sorry bored at work)
I traded in my 2003 Civic EX (Cdn Si) for a 4dr. Mazda3 GT sedan (2.3L engine, 5spd.). Big world of difference from the Civic, better fit and finish, better ride, -much- nicer cabin, no problems to date versus a bit of suspension squeak (though all cars here seem to do that when things get below -20). Looks-wise its all subjective, if you don't like the looks of something theres not a fact sheet someone can show you that says why you ought to.
As for Mazdas being junk, some of the Proteges got a bit uneasy with age, but keep in mind that of all import cars, Mazda is one of the few that still produces a goodly number of their cars in -Japan-, versus Canada, the US or Mexico, something to mull over.
The 06 Si seems the odd one in the mix, as if I'm not mistaken its obviously more expensive than the other two? Or maybe I' mistaken? Either way, I wouldn't buy the first year a new model year is introduced, wait till yr 2/3 until they work out all the bugs.
I'll put my $0.02 in for the Mazda3, I've been really enjoying it so far and the engine has a really smooth power delivery, also, nice shifter action, half the time I shift I only have to move my wrist, throws are nice and short.
