from what I know, the before the new GTO was around, there was only the Holden. Then when GM decided to bring back the GTO, they just took the Holden and morphed it into a Pontiac. The new Holden also gets the 6.0L w/ 400BHP, and unfortunately gets those "nostrils" on the hood also.
^^yeah, the Holden is owned by GM and the Monaro is the same as the GTO. They are totally identical except for a few badges and features. The Holden is a much higher end car in Aus than the GTO is here. This is the last year of production for this body style of Monaro and GTO, both are made in Aus. at the same plant. A new Monaro HSV will run you about 65k AUS. which is the same as about 48k here. I love the GTO and will soon have one.
Last time I had this much fun some furniture got broken!

the same car is sold as the vauxhall monaro. GM sells the "gto" across the globe under sister companies (like vauxhall and so on)
and actually the monaro is offered in a new version with the corvette engine just before they stopped making it. so america got screwed, not like anyone on a civic forum would care though

Eh...
I still prefer Holden's own Ute (in either S, SS, SSZ, or SST Concept) over a Monaro or, worse, "GTO"... (There will never be another true GTO in the afterlife of The Judge)

[EDIT]
For those of you who don't know The Judge... here's an ad of it's 1969 version.

all i can say is as usual modern pontiac cannot succeed at making ANY new car look good. every friggin car they make gets that horrific grill, especially the solstice, and looks like a retard drew it!
and pontiac's interiors lately have been second to all. they are so damn cheap its terrible.
As for the GTO, its a POS if they ever made one. Its made "modern" by making it look like a rounder version of an integra. But unfortunatly the old gto had no japanese styling cues so the new one looks like a clown car in comparison. its an embarassment to america and to pontiac.
At least with the menaro they TRIED to make some sort of style on it. Its still *** ugly and plain at the same time, minus the nice front bumper, but GM is really getting worse with every minute.

Besides, Baskin Robins has a minumum of 31 flavors for you to choose one (hope you know what I mean)
yes gm's australian company is holden and they still make alot of nice cars there. they still have the caprice which is insanely nice, plus the ute is the el camino. theyve got the monaro which was around before the gto came here but they are the same thing. i havent looked at their site for a while but i remember all the cars are just gorgeous and badass machines.
the saturn sky and potiac solstice are also based off the holden thing and the vauxhall vx220. (they were in need for speed hot pursuit)
i personally really like the two companies and im a big gm fan (even though right now chevy blows the floppy donkey ****.)
and im sorry but the gto looks absolutely nothing like a freakin integra, thats retarded. and a gto doesnt look any more plain than a civic. ill admit for its cost the looks arent that appealing but its still a decent car all around.
edit: sorry that was the opel speedster and vauxhall vx220 i was talking about.

^^ I agree, im a fan of GM all around personally, the GTO/Monaro looks nothing like an Integra. If anything it looks more like the last M3, especially if you remove the spoiler, and it performs along the same lines. 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and 400hp for 32k? Sign me up! In India and a few other middle eastern countries GM sells the Caprice SS and a Lumina SS. The Lumina is basically a rebadged GTO but looks alot better IMO. Heres some pics of both. http://q8parts.com/new_page_1.htm

so damn nice, i *heart* holden
lol
i like the soft curves they have and the soft curves end with sharp edges.
(doing body work i really learn to pay attention and appreciate body lines and shapes that go un-noticed, pick the ugliest stupidest car and ill find something that i like body shape wise)
that bumper is nice on the lumina, love the fog lamps.
clean *** engine bay too.
