Winter Driving Story!

Yesterday, the day before Thanksgiving, I was driving home from college to visit my fam in the mists of a nice storm. I was on the freeway around 7pm (dark) and ran into a section of pure ice. After passing about 20 cars in the ditch and testing the slickness of the road (gas the sh.it out of it at 60mph and watched the spedo jump to 90mph) I figured it was time to slow up some. Well, it was pretty heavy traffic and then.. BAM all the cars in front of me (4, two directly in front of me in my lane and two in the other lane) start spinning out like mad. I'm pretty much at the mercy of the road, I cant brake or I'll spin, cant swerve or I'll spin.. so I lift a tad and hope for the best. Luckly a gap cleared just as it was my turn to go through, cars on both sides of me still spinning and missed me by inches. Now through it I check my rear view to see atleast 10 cars spinning like tops, I hate nascar but it was just like on tv.. haha. To make a long story short, be carefull out there this winter and dont break or jerk the wheel on ice (I'm sure you all know that but its hard to have that kinda self control not to). As my mom always told me "It's better late than in a crate". Happy Thanks Giving 7thgeners.

Icy roads must suck. Im in the south and I don't have to worry about that being that I live right next to the ocean. But glad to here that you were able to keep control of your car. If I ever drive up north I will keep your tips in mind. Happy Thanksgiving

Nice story... Luck combined with skill can certainly save you $$$

Stuff like this makes me want to buy studded winter tires, like they use in winter rallies.

^ Those things are noisy when you're on the road though... I'd go insane with studded tires/chains around my wheels.

I'm thinking about asking for some Bridgestone snow/ice tires for xmas. We dont get tons of snow in MI but it gets super icy and storms pop out in like 10 minutes. Anyone have good reviews on some winter snow/ice tires?

i used studded snow tires on my 01 civic when i had it for two winters and had absolutley no problems with snow or ice. THere wasnt to much road noise either it was fairly silent.
