This pic is pretty old...from my understanding what happened is the guy removed the pressure safety valve in order to get more pressure out of the bottle when using the bottle heater.....The temp sensor was also removed from the bottle heater and the heater was wired up to constant 12volt power not a swithched power source so it would turn off when the car was turned off....so the heater was left on and the vehicle left alone...pressure got to high and the bottle blew.....this has nothing to do with the safety of NItrous, it has to do with the idiot who removed the safety devices, there is a reason for all of this stuff you know......And just one thing i'm curious about is where you find a Nitrous pressure guage that goes to 33,000 PSI?
Question: " how the fawk did that happen?"
Answer: Swifty is right ... the bottle over-pressurized, probably due to heat.
Equation: Over 1000 PSI + no racer safety blowoff valve = portable bomb
This is why NHRA sanctioned tracks won't let you run on the street drags without the valve and blowoff tube (vented to the outside of vehicle). Phoenix won't even let you run with the bottle heater hooked up.
