problems with painting trim pieces

Well i wasn't sure if this was a tech question or not, but i'm not really installing anything so... meanwhile for those you who always reply with "do a search" i did one. i couldn't find any info. and yes, i know it's in the DIY but i'm having problems. just so that is clear, here goes.

i'm trying to paint the trim piece on the front console, and this is what the DIY says:

"Remove the center piece by first removing the heating and cooling ***** (just grab and pull), and remove the accessory plug trim piece (looks like a cigarette lighter plug). You will need to put a thin rag on a flat tip screw driver to get that trim piece off. Unplug the plug. Now, if you look up in there, you will see two 8 mm bolts(silver), remove these, then push the bracket up until the center piece pops out. You will have to push hard, but it will push out, the radio and everything is connected to it.( do not attempt to pry this piece out with the rag and screw driver, it will warp the plastic and will not have a good fit when replaced! Trust me ...I know "

ok, i got the ***** off... the accesory plug trim piece, do they mean the actual black piece around the plug or that whole lower console section? i couldn't get either part off... my friend says you have to take off the whole console to take that part off. is that what you do? because we were having trouble with that too. but if you don't have to take the whole console off, my friend owes me a buck. keep that in mind

Yeh you have to take off the entire bottom cigarette lighter dash thing. Just grab both sides and pull, i have had to take this part off so many times that it only has one of those stupid clip things left. Anyway once you have that off, you should be able to see two bolts. Just take those off and push the top plate (you will see two) towards you, and after a little muscle, it should pop right off. Good luck
