dealer warranty- worth it?
Hey guys I'm about to buy a used rsx that is past its factory warranty. Do you think it's worth it getting the aftermarket warranty? Is it any good? My neighbor says they (the warranty co.) always find a way to get out of paying for it.

It is worth it....my dealership has NEVER given me problems even when the problem was caused by my aftermarket modification they covered it.
List of stuff they have covered:
-CV Joints
-Axles
-Right rear wheel sensor (my fault)
-Right rear wheel sensor (24hrs after they replaced the first one...still my fault...still covered)
-ECU replacement
Not one damn problem at all!!! Go Honda!! BTW, I have the extended warranty too.

Yup, listen to yoour neighbor. Aftermarket warranties are terrible. I had a friend who fried his tranny in his truck, they wouldn't cover it cause they said the parts inside had shown signs of heat, really, duh, heat is the number one killer of trannies. It's another money grab by the dealer.

if its the hondacare extended warranty, they will deny all claims. I have an aftermarket company (through a different carrier) and so far they replaced an alternator for free no problem. Cost $500 and I picked the shop to do it. The shop calls the company and they sent money. And I even had aftermarket pulley on the alt.

Just make sure you do your research before you buy.
There's plenty of good info to be found here: Linkydinky.

If it's a used RSX, get the certified warranty. You don't actually have to buy a certified car to get the certified warranty, you can just take an RSX to an Acura dealer, tell them you want the Honda warranty to cover the powertrian. The power train warranty is worth the money. the bumper to bumper is through Hondacare, this has been bad to most people, just get the Honda certified warranty. If think it's around $800 plus parts (they charge you if they need to replace breaks and all that, so do the brakes your self if they need done).

I would look into getting an extended warranty from Honda/Acura instead of going with an aftermarket one. Generally aftermarket ones are picky (as mentioned), take longer to approve claims, and often won't use OEM parts either.

I say first explore the option of the dealership warranties, but then check out independent companies for pricing and coverage. Usually Most dealership warranty companies will cover 100% of whats on the car, as most aftermarket companies will cover a certain list of parts.

Yeah, lots over outside comapnies only cover certian parts of the engine. Like they don't cover the ehadgasket because it's not a lubed moving part, then if you blow your head gasket and kill your motor, you'r screwed, because the damage to the rest of the motor was caused by a fualty part that is not covered.
